I like this band. On the Culture Industry is a good album. I went with the "Fish taco Randy Savage..." choice.

I was only figuring things out in Chapel Hill when they got going in Asheville, and never got to see them play. "Lament for Bhopal" off the first LP has stuck with me. I heard that record long before I heard Savage Republic, SCG, or much free jazz, and I guess i got it backwards.

It's not all for me, but NC. Used to sit with one of them at lunch in 3rd grade. His mom packed him fish sticks on several occasions.

They made a record called "Heads Full Of Poison" that is really fantastic. 2-piece guitar/drums making traditional Japanese and gamelan music-influenced, totally ripping and dynamic music. Super great. There are Youtube clips of live shows during this period that are killer as well. Ryan Oslance is a phenomenal drummer.

I haven't heard anything else of theirs that comes close to that record, though some of their earlier stuff is very good.

They have gone down a boring post-rock loopy-looper hole now - bummer.

I had only listened to "On the Culture Industry", good but nothing too original. From your description "Heads Full Of Poison" seems more interesting tho. I'll give it a listen :)

(I didn't even notice they are on Cuneiform records :) )

ETA: finished. I agree with you, great record and better than the other one by far!
