for some odd reason i think i've now fully regressed into reagan's second term. weird. playing my jackson, for this same odd reason i recalled the song "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" which i was compelled to remember how to play.

it is a wikked fucking cool song. and the lyrics are *slightly* poignant, and also slightly retarded. but still... megadeth = NOT CRAP!

----------------

Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

Brother will kill brother
Spilling blood across the land
Killing for religion
Something I don’t understand

Fools like me,who cross the sea
And come to foreign lands
Ask the sheep,for their beliefs
Do you kill on god’s command?

A country that’s divided
Surely will not stand
My past erased,no more disgrace
No foolish naive stand

The end is near,it’s crystal clear
Part of the master plan
Don’t look now to israel
It might be your homelands

Holy wars

Upon my podium,as the
Know it all scholar
Down in my seat of judgement
Gavel’s bang,uphold the law
Up on my soapbox,a leader
Out to change the world
Down in my pulpit as the holier-
Than-thou-could-be-messenger of God

Wage the war on organized crime
Sneak attacks,repel down the rocks
Behind the lines
Some people risk to employ me
Some people live to destroy me
Either way they die

They killed my wife, and my baby
With hopes to enslave me
First mistake...last mistake|
Paid by the alliance,to slay all the giants
Next mistake...no more mistakes|

Fill the cracks in,with judicial granite
Because I don’t say it,don’t mean I ain’t
Thinkin’ it
Next thing you know, they’ll take my thoughts away
I know what I said, now I must scream of the overdose
And the lack of mercy killings

"Hello, me! It's CRAP again!"

There are many, many bad things about this band, but the first thing that came to mind is that laughably godawful cover of "Anarchy in the UK". I seem to remember some other cock rock band butchering that song. Mayhaps it was Motley Crue or somebody...

I thought it was a requirement for passing 6th grade that you buy and love at least one Megadeth album.

it's really cool to see that everyone who's responded so far has a seemingly educated opinion, indicating we've all listened to our share of 'deth.

but i have to say CRAP...dave mustaine should not be allowed near a microphone. the guy can play lead guitar like a beast (if you're into that sort of thing), but his lyrics and vocals are just embarassing. he actually uses the word "manpussy" in song.

i dont care how much polyphonic-pentatonic-whatever guitar playin' you like...you gotta cringe when this motherfucker sings.

weird. i always thought there was a distinct similarity between the timbre of his voice and that of john reis. i like them both.

F is for Fighting
R is for red (ancestors blood, in battles we shed)
E we elect them
E we eject them (the land of the free and the home of the brave)
D for your dying
O your Overture
M is for money, you know what that cures
(M We will cover you're grave with Manure)

Right? Me memory may be hazy...

They were THE creepy Drugged up speedmetal band from back in the day... when the kids you had to be afraid of at the mall wore Kingdiamond Back patches instead of Gang colors.

All down hill when they got sober. Or when I entered seventh grade.

Either way.

MegadetH is awful.

"In My Darkest Hour" is unbelievably shitty as is most early 'deth. "Holy Wars" I like, and the songs from the Beavis & Butthead and Last Action Hero soundtracks are decent.

The most bitter voice around belong(ed) to Dave Mustaine.

Jeez, all those quotes, and we have to wait til here before we get:

"Whaddya mean I don't believe in God?
I talk to him every day.
Whaddya mean I won't support your system?
I go to court when I have to."

Incredible blurring of divorce settlement/social commentary lyrics, no?

Also, that guitar solo at the end of My Last Words...

But you're right, Mustaine couldn't sing live, so consequently CRAP.

Just remembered, Mustaine did an interview in Sounds music paper some time in the late 80s. Said something like "If I were president, I'd built a greta big wall of America all around the USA to keep the Mexicans out" I think he spent the next few years apologising for that one. CRAP (seconded by me)

Dave Mustaine bawling about getting kicked out of Metallica all those years ago: Not Crap.

Dave Mustaine passing out piss drunk with his left arm against a sharp object and cutting off the blood to his hand, damaging nerves and not being able to play guitar for two years after: NOT CRAP.

NC, for the first two albums. The rest are mediocre garbage.

Back around '86 or '87 I won a radio station contest where a buddy and I got to be Megadeth "roadies for a day," which consisted mostly of sitting around and getting high. Mustaine was a real prick, still bitter and ranting about Kirk Hammett stealing his solos. Their bassist Dave was a nice guy. Drummer Gar (from Dunkirk, NY, who died in 1999) drove off with some fans to score some coke. Rideless, we ended up "borrowing" a car from a repair garage to get home.

I never liked the first record, nothing there for me.
I like Peace sells, it's a real solid record aside from a stumble here and there.
So far, so good, so what has a couple awesome tracks on it (hook in mouth, darkest hour) as does Rust in Peace, but Rust in Peace also has one of the lamest songs ever Hanger 18 (it's sounds like something Iron Maiden would even throw away for being too stupid) and if I remember correctly a few other terrible ones.
holy wars is a top of the line good thrash track.
The rest you can throw down the sewer.
Megadeth up till Rust in Peace? N/C
After? TOTAL crap
Mix them together and I think it swings a little bit over onto the crap side.

Better than Metallica in the 90's to now, and a close second to them during the 80's. Holy Wars is a great song.

Good Mourning/Black Friday

Into the Lungs of Hell

Good songs.

Remember this?

Metallica wrote:"The Four Horsemen"
By the last breath of the fourth winds blow
Better raise your ears
The sound of hooves knocks at your door
Lock up your wife and children now
Its time to wield the blade
For now you have got some company

The horsemen are drawing nearer
On the leather steeds they ride
They have come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With the four horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die

You have been dying since the day
You were born
You know it has all been planned
The quartet of deliverance rides
A sinner once a sinner twice
No need for confession now
Cause now you have got the fight of your life

The horsemen are drawing nearer
On the leather steeds they ride
They have come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With the four horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die

Time
Has taken its toll on you
The lines that crack your face
Famine
Your body it has torn through
Withered in every place
Pestilence
For what you have had to endure
And what you have put others through
Death
Deliverance for you for sure
There is nothing you can do
So gather round young warriors now
And saddle up your steeds
Killing scores with demon swords
Now is the death of doers of wrong
Swing the judgment hammer down
Safely inside armor blood guts and sweat

The horsemen are drawing nearer
On the leather steeds they ride
They have come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With the four horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die

Megadeth wrote:"Mechanix"
Imagine you were at my station
And you brought your motor to me
Your a burner yeah a real motor car
Said you wanna get your order filled
Made me shiver when I put it in
Pumping just won't do ya know luckily for you
Whoever thought you'd be better
At turning a screw than me
I do it for my life
Made my drive shaft crank
Made my pistons bulge
Made my ball bearing melt from the heat
We were shifting hard when we took off
Put tonight all four on the floor
When we hit top end you know it feels to slow
I'm giving you my room service
And ya know it's more than enough
Oh one more time ya know I'm in love

It's been a while but I think I prefer "Mechanix".

enough said. i def agree. but i'd say sepultura's chaos ad is the not crappest metal album of the 90s. then again, it's a really tough call since all those "rust..." guitar arrangements are really unprecedented in thrash metal. good job at blurring the line between rhythm and lead guitar. marty f is a fitting partner-in-crime for mustaine. ellefson's bass is so great on that album (dawn patrol!), and the drummer is actually pretty unconventional for a thrash drummer, probably because he didn't come from a "thrash metal" background... played as a session drummer for the likes of john fogerty and others. just looked up info about this drummer on wikipedia, it turns out he happens to be the son of the saxophonist who played the "pink panther" theme originally. rock on!

really i don't mind mustaine's style of vocals. i used to hate it, now i've heard it enough to be used to it, and these days i figure thats just what he likes to do.

megadeth > metallica, by so many miles.
