He had personality though, and an ear for hooks.

But yeah that new song is really bad.
That makes me an angry boy.

I unfortunately have sat through that pinnacle of Metallica horseshit movie just once (thank God, just once), but didn't all of them cry? Metallica are straight up pussies now too.

I did enjoy the part where Mustaine was recalling a time he broke some dude's leg that was trying to start shit with Lars, but Lars was too much of a pussy to do anything about it.

As far as I can remember, Mustaine has been the only one that beat the shit out of people at all.

He knocked out Hetfield when trying to fight Lars. James thought he was pretty tuff, I guess. Apparently not.

As for Megadeth, they rule. I don't care how crazy Dave is now. He's old and is lucky to be alive after the amount of drugs he's done.

Not Crap.

yup yup...

I always regarded them as the most cartoonish of thrash metal's "Big Four".

Some very good, very clean guitar work though.

Read Dave's autobio a few weeks ago. Here is what I learned:

* His dad was physically abusive
* He did a lot of drugs and he was in and out of rehab.
* He's really really bitter about getting kicked out of Metallica and being Not The King
* He doesn't give a shit about any bandmates ever. There is not a single ex-bandmate that he doesn't have some nasty story to tell.
* If he has some sort of spiritual or philosophical leaning, I can't tell what it is. He waves the flag of Christianity but it's in name only.

So, nothing new.

When I got to the story about his pinched nerve in his hand and how scared shitless he was, and how he had to come back through physical therapy, I read it aloud to Ms. 11. She thought that was pretty scary, and asked some questions about it, so it wasn't a total waste of a read.

These are all great:

Even this is pretty cool:

Also, there's no way Mustaine was one of the worst singers in thrash. The genre was chock full with awful singers, many bands are borderline listenable on account of the vocals alone. He did fine.

But their nosedive was unparalleled.

I think Mustaine was probably the most talented guitarist in thrash, but I'm not sure I could compile two albums of good Megadeth material.

I loved this band for a while as a young teen.

Between what two points do you see their nosedive? What do you see as their last good album?

I'm good, thanks. They're one of countless metal bands who decided somewhere in the early 90's they were good at playing rock'n roll and fell flat. Didn't notice it either, they went even further into suckdom.

They played a 'secret' show at the Metro here right before it came out, I think they filmed the video for one of the songs at it, anyway, we went all excited because we were thrash maniacs and man, you could feel the air go out of the room immediately when they started that 'Symphony of Destruction' bullshit, people were just bumming the fuck out.

I'm actually listening to this one for the first time and it's pretty good:

Strangely, they lifted bits from their own Nancy Sinatra version for songs on Rust in Peace.

a bunch of the riffs on that one are just completely bonkers. i don't think anyone else ever really wrote riffs like that.

it sounds like it was recorded in a tin can though. actually all of their records except peace sells sound pretty bad. rust in peace is a good record but i hate the way it sounds, so flat and not rocking.

i think the original lineup was pretty amazing. gar samuelson and chris poland added a lot...they both played with a lot more finesse than yer average thrasher.

i remember getting symphony of destruction right when it came out and being so disappointed. didn't that and the black album come out right around the same time? those were tough times...

He released completely remixed and even re-recorded in some parts, editions of all the records up to Rust a few years ago. Killing's my business is the only one I thought sounded way better, I always hated it because it sounded so horrible, but the remixed one, I actually realized it was a really good thrash record. The only bad thing is that they threw a censored version of 'These Boots' on it, with BEEEEPS over half the lyrics for some reason, assuming some Christ based moment of muddled thinking.

That's the cover of the remixed version, highly recommended.

i like the SFSGSW new mix too, the original is way too buried in reverb

I meant that anyone would ever give a fuck about, I know it was like 8 albums he did but who's listening to those shitty hard rock records after Rust?

Yeah the So Far is decent too, but it was nowhere near as fucked to begin with, the Killing's my business is like night and day
