Watched this flick last night. It's great. At first I was scared that it was going to be a 2001 ripoff, however it took a total left turn and I was locked in.

NOT CRAP.

I have a good feeling this movie may be even better a second time 'round.

This movie looks incredible. I'll watch just about anything that Sam Rockwell is in.

But why am I finding out about it just now? Looks like it's been out for a while.

It didn't seem to get a very large release, at least in Canada. I never saw a trailer or ads for it, nothing.

Picked up the blu-ray of it today, very excited!

I saw this last night.

The similarities between Silent Running, Dark Star, Solaris, 2001, Alien are deliberate... DUH.

I found it to be engaging and down right devastating in the final third until the very cool 10-second sliver of a happy ending. Very well paced.

Sam Rockwell was aces.

Best sci-fi since 12 Monkeys.

NOT CRAP.

Crazy - Duncan Jones, creator of the film, is David Bowie's son - didn't see that coming!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/8711216.stm

The scenario is one that already has deep resonance in popular culture. Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris, Duncan Jones's 2009 award-winning sci-fi film Moon and, of course, A Space Oddity, the breakthrough single by Jones's father David Bowie, all use the device of space travel to explore themes of alienation and loneliness.

I like it. I like the fact it's not overly ambitious and the story is quite narrow in its focus.

I can't really imagine anyone doing a better job than Sam Rockwell. He was completely endearing as frightened and caring younger brother to his elderly dying self.

I guess this is aimed at me. I do recognise that Moon is essentially an homage to these films, the point I was making is that if you took all those references out and just kept the original ideas in the film, you'd have almost nothing left. I think the film was so well put together that that doesn't really matter. Just observing that it managed to be both an excellent film and entirely derivative of other films, which itself is a rare feat.
Don't shun it. Fun it.

I'm not sure this is true... you would have a great movie with Sam Rockwell tugging at our emotions.

I found the core story, the story about yearning and hope and deceit... the story about a guy that just so misses his family to be the most compelling part... of course the "twist" just made it that much more devastating.

It was an emotional ride for me.

I just got it on netflix for the wife and I to watch together. I'm curious if she will take from it what I did... she is not well versed in sci-fi so the homage mayl be lost on her.
