WF: would be N/C by a mile, but that Gap ad knocked them flying the wrong way.

Agreed on the Spinal Tap sized waffle of all the way up to 11. Yet still, somehow not crap.

I would say forget about the video (although I like it a lot); the song Da Funk alone is a guarantee of immortality. If AC/DC were a French dance band they would make something similar to Da Funk.

Transcendental in it's simplicity.

I never got the appeal. Maybe I've heard the wrong songs.
If anyone wants to give me a top 5, I'm all ears. In fact, I'd like it a lot.

As it is, I like the song "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" more than Daft Punk, for what that's worth.

I'll give you a top 1. 'Human After All'. I just find it puts the biggest dumb smile on face every time i hear it. The most demented robot voice you've ever heard, relentlessly and even angrily spouting off the word HUMAN over and over again. Oh, and it rocks too.

Or alternatively, skip their regular albums entirely and just get ALIVE '97. Strange that one of my favourite live albums of all time is by an electronic band.

Also, i rate 'Da Funk' up there with Can's 'Halleuwah' for pure grimey groove. In that sort of, find you're bobbing your head without realising it kind of way.

NOT CRAP...

This thread is predictably going to fall under the three categoric types of people "Electronic music is lame", "Most electronic music is lame or boring, but [THIS BAND] is the exception", and "Electronic music is awesome. PLUR!". (I'm somewhere between 2 and 3)
"Pro Tools is too California Hollywood bullshit.”

I bought tickets to a Daft Punk concert, was let into the venue, was served with alcoholic beverages and then kicked out of the venue before the concert started because I couldn't prove I was 18 years old (this was in the UK). The bouncer even let me keep drinking alcohol on the way out.

I'd like them better if they were in fact a daft punk. Just come on stage and walk into things with his daft head. I'd clap and pay money.

ok, sorry to be a jerk, but as much as i like "da funk" and "around the world" and to a lesser extent "teachers", statements like this befuddle me, particularly because i see them in places like this macho rock-oriented forum in 2006. how can anyone like "rollin' and scratchin'"? the songs are mind-bogglingly repetitive and without a great hook or groove there's nothing to repeat. i'd think that lots of people would be saying "jeez i'm embarrassed at how much i listened to daft punk in 97, that trend was stupid" even if they still secretly harbor love for a few tracks.
