I've looked and I'm positive it hasn't been done before.

Anticapital + Blindspot + 3 is one of the best political grindcore albums ever, and Rob Proctor's drumming is unbelievable. Steve Heritage was also playing all this shit with a Telecaster, hilariously enough (the pickups were replaced). I don't think there's a solid body electric guitar that is less suitable for grindcore than a Telecaster. But he sounds great! So who knows.

I think Paul Pavlovich was the singer on this album, though I know at some point Heritage took over on vocals. The vocals are all the same anyway, they're all death grunts growling very well-written and very well observed lyrics. The thing about whoever's singing on this stuff is that you can actually understand all the lyrics. Napalm Death certainly didn't try to do that.

Anyway, Assück is Not Crap.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

My impression of Assuck:

"GUUUG, OOUUUH, HUUUUU, GU, GUU, GUGUGU, WUUUUU, WUUHUUU, RRRRRUGGGGUUUGUHHU!!!!"

I love Assuck. Misery Index is a great album. I just can't understand a single word the guy said.

Listen to Anticapital and you can understand everything. Whoever's doing the vocals has amazingly clear diction.

Fantastic band. Incredible live. Rob was flawless. Steve was probably the most technically proficient guitar player I have ever seen. The years with Paul and Spinach singing were the best. When Steve started singing and playing guitar it just felt a bit off.

Spinach is now in a band called Worlds.

Not crap.

I didn't realize people liked them outside of Tampa, and Japan.
Not crap!

Also, lots of good shows at 403 Chaos. Didn't Steve move to Chicago or something?

I used to see more than a few crust kids with Assück patches sewn on their hoodies in Michigan around 2006, 2007. And there are Assück patches on sale at the punk/metal store here in town. So their influence has spread, or at least their patches have.

That was a fun place to play.

Steve Heritage moved to D.C. and then Hawaii, where he lives currently. Steve Kosiba moved to Chicago for graduate school. I believe he has finished his Ph.D. and is teaching somewhere in Illinois.

Okay in bursts of ten minutes or less but really tedious after that.

I saw them play a basement show after Capitalist Casualties had already played a 45-minute opening set. I think I left after five minutes of Assuck. There's only so much BLEARRRGGGHHH a person can take in one evening.

I can't believe Capitalist Casualties played a 45-minute set. No punk/hardcore/powerviolence/whatever band should be playing for that long. 20 minutes tops.

Anyway, Assück. Not crap.

It might have been shorter--it's been a while--but I remember CC playing for an absurdly long time.

i saw a bunch of their (i think) last tour with reversal of man. this was the 3 piece version, with steve singing, and jason from ROM on bass. it seemed like there was a lot of bad blood between steve and rob.

also, rob always refused to play through a PA. which means they sounded great in a basement, but weak and small in the VFW. but goddamn, they were a great band. i don't think they get nearly the credit they deserve being one of the first grind bands i can think of.

NOT CRAP.

Great band. Certainly NC.

Now, have any of you heard the "Born Backwards" demo? It pretty much explains their silly name.

It's really not bad (as I recall) if you can separate it from their later "serious" stuff.

That demo is all over music blog land if you're curious.

Still awesome. Rob Proctor once got dumped on by Dave Witte for not playing blastbeats correctly, I believe. Not sure if that's true, but it's a funny story if so. I still persist in thinking Anticapital is their best work.
