This is going to be a bit of a challenge for me. I think I might have to devote a day to listening to both band before I can choose.

I've never heard Truman's Water, but I think the Grifters were mediocre and thus terribly, terribly overrated.

dragon,

very few bands (maybe not even sxxxt - shhhh!) have done anything that means so much to me as them grifters. i have never heard the trumans water, tho if they are even comparable, i wanna know: so where do i start?

ps - why is everybody talking so much about the guy from for carnation's old band?

see that's the weird thing about this thread....are truman's and the gritfers comparable at all? I vaguely remember the grifters as being a sort of southern rock type of band, whereas truman's water was total nutso, out-of-tune skronk. Both I remember being tagged as lo-fi, but other than that...not much in common

Both bands have been dogged with Pavement comparisons because of the whole lo-fi thing. Trumans Water reminds me of early Grifters stuff. Overall, Grifters are the more melodic of the two.

Yeah, I agree
Anyways I'll take Trumans Water, they were SO good IMO!
I don't know all their discography but Apistogramma, Fragments of a Lucky Break (my favourite) and Spasm Smash were really good.
