BUMP. I can't believe this one fell through the cracks.

Way not crap. I actually hadn't given the post-Nicke albums much of a chance, but after our bass player, an Entombed super-fan, brought tapes of "Uprising," "Morning Star," and "Unreal Estate" into the tour van, they kinda won me over.

Slight waffle for the first two albums (not bad, but straight up death metal doesn't really do much for me), and that terrible, terrible "Some Difference" album.

Still NC for side one of "To Ride, Shoot Straight, And Speak The Truth" alone.

The comic book tie-in (I've read that Earache/Columbia made them do it) is embarrassing and cheesy as all fuck. But that album itself is pretty damn good.

And they cover "State Of Emergency" by Stiff Little Fingers!

NC. Last album was great. When I saw them live the vocalist was absolutely scummy and repulsive in the best way possible.

Clandestine was hot, as I recall.
Yeah, I wrote that. It’s called “I Wanna Rock Your Body.” And then in parenthesis it says “Till the Break of Dawn.”

Definitely NOT CRAP. They can do the full-on bludgeoning death metal or the hard rock/metal mix with equal ferocity.

I've been listening to them a lot for the first time in a billion years. Amazed by how well Clandestine and Wolverine Blues hold up. Have just heard Morning Star for the first time, too. Pretty great.

Left Hand Path is top tier. It hits all the best marks of the genre--filthy, esoteric and a lot of fun all at once. Clandestine was a bit of a step down (mainly because of angry the pirate vocals), but still good.

All the southern sounding groove stuff that came after? Eh... I think the 90s bit them hard, in the worst way. I mean, you might as well just listen to Pantera, at least they were real rednecks.

"LAST DIRTY DEED DUN GIT DUN... BOY HOWDY"

Stop it. You guys are Swedish.
That makes me an angry boy.

I get what you mean, and by that account Hellacopters and all swedish hard rock from the 90's are far worse offenders. It doesn't sound like you listened to those mid-period Entombed records at all, though. Some of my highlights:

They were certainly better at the rock'n roll thing than, say Metallica, who sound totally inept at it. Of all the bands who took this turn in the mid-90's, and there were a whole fucking lot, they were the best one by miles and miles.

Also, interestingly, I don't hear the same criticism applied the other way, now that there are dozens of american bands making a career out of sounding like 90's swedish metal.

Just to be clear, Clandestine is, by a long shot, my favourite album of theirs, and one of my favourite records ever.

But I happen to enjoy their "death'n rolll" phase as well. Starting with Morning Star their albums leave me cold, though. Also, though right now I don't think Same Difference is as awful as I did when it came out, it's still not a record I listen to at all.

As noted above, I've just returned to this album after a long break and have been enjoying it immensely. I just put it on. I was excited and ready to rock. Your comment was lodged in the back of my head and as soon as the vocals came in I immediately burst out laughing. You have completely ruined this album for me. Thank you so much.

Entombed are Not Crap, but only on the strength of their early output. Clandestine is a ripping mother fucker of an album. LHP is pretty great too. WB and To Ride... are okay, and everything after that is more shit than shinola. The last few things they put out are straight up embarrassing.

i understand why left hand path was influential, but i can't get into this stuff. and death 'n' roll (both in concept and actual execution) is just awful.

no vote.

I like Entombed, but "Into the Grave" smokes anything they've ever done.
