Where can you order their final album from? I was thinking of just running into the city and picking it up, but I don't know if any shops would have it.

Don't be so hard on yourself, _dave. You've proven yourself a most excellent pseud.

I can't think of a more perfect record store employee than you. Facile level of knowledge, incredibly strong opinions, condescending attitude, no attention span...I wish I had the money to waste on opening my own record store, just so you could work there.

Man, Funeral Mariachi is sounding very good coming out of my speakers.

I have quite a few of their 7" records. Used to pick them in trade for my own bands records when when when we'd play with them at the old Sun Club in Tempe. They were so very hit or miss. They seemed to be more into entertaining themselves, than the audiance. I remember one show where they played nothing but old television show theme songs and had the audience guess some of the more obscure ones (or ones they couldn't remember how they went).

Side B of Funeral Mariachi might be the best thing they've ever done.

Late night in a dim open plan office, so tired I've forgotten my pin number, so alone I can itch whatever I want whilst standing on my desk, this record is perfect. I have not heard a more moving murmur than the last song, the title song.

Well, I just found out something that has blew my mind: This is my name, one of the tracks from Funeral Mariachi, appeared first in the very first thing this guys ever recorded, the cloaven cassette God is my solar system. That version is wordless, with an untuned guitar, without all the arrangements and, shit goddam, is 28 years old.

Talk about a song in progress...

By the way, if some kind soul decided to upload a couple of Cloaven Cassettes to the Sendspace thread, I promise I'll be grateful.

A lot of their records have been released as MP3 albums. I've just grabbed a day or so worth of music from Amazon.

scg are the furthest thing from crap. i don't usually like to talk in terms of 'art', because i find it hard to take anything so seriously. but if anything could be classified as which, (to me) it's what these people were doing. gocher was a fucking genius (read: on some other shit [!]).

Desperate plea:

My vinyl copy of Funeral Mariachi was lent to a friend now long gone over a year ago. Anybody have an extra/unwanted one they'd be willing to sell to me at a decent price?

SCG are planning some vinyl reissues that should see the light, hopefully, before too long.

Plans include reissues of their LPs on the Placebo label (s/t debut, Grotto Of Miracles, Horse Cock Phephner). These records have never been reissued before.

Torch Of The Mystics, too.

Also - I just found out that Alan reissued the amazing Alvarius B. double-LP from 1998 on CD and vinyl. This is out now.

This record contains the solo version of "Cooking With Satan" among many other vicious and hilarious 'acoustic folk' songs, some of which showed up on subsequent SCG records.

Speaking of, he's playing at Union Pool in Brooklyn, on Tuesday, September 4. It's the first time he's played solo in NYC, I think. I am ridiculously excited.

In an SCG solo Thunderdome between Alvarius B. and Sir Richard Bishop, I would have to give it to Alvarius.

The first 2 s/t double LPs, Blood Operatives of the Barium Sunset, Baroque Primitiva...all just fantastic.

Sorry, SRB.
