True enough to the original Clive Barker short story but with a well-done American take and some truly gripping terror.

Haven't seen Candyman 2, don't especially want to.

I'm going to give this a NC with a :WF: of 5 for not having seen it in 10 years or so.
Otherwise, what Boombats said.

Gets a N/C for the Phillip Glass soundtrack alone.

Tony Todd is SCARY. Totally creepy in this movie, though I bet he sort of wishes he'd never taken the role at this point.

In the someday, what's that sound.

Fascinating footage of condo-less Chicago and the Cabrini's in this movie. I seem to remember there being a bit of social commentary between the clash of the projects and the rich people just down the street. But I also remember the movie and acting being pretty bad..

Same here. I'd be interested in revisiting it, though, because of the previous posts. Maybe I'm missing something.

Tony Todd reminds me of Lance Henriksen in that whenever I see his name in the credits for a horror film I tend to avoid it.

edit: with the exception of the Night of the Living Dead remake. that was ok.

What? Phillip Glass did the soundtrack for this movie? Did he need money or something?

It's my understanding that the film that we see is considerably different to the film the director started making and the film that Glass agreed to score for him. Hollywood and all that shit, y'see.

I finally watched this - many decades late! - and I thought it was pretty great. Loved the gentrification commentary especially.

Jordan Peele has a remake coming out soon, btw - makes a lot of sense.
