Movie: Mad Max 4:Fury Road

Postby punch_the_lion on Tue Jun 12, 2012 2:25 am

So apparently George Miller is going to be making this. Max will be played by Tom Hardy (good actor) and it will have Charlize Theron in it. Thoughts? Good or bad idea? Another unwanted franchise resurrection?

Are they going to badly dub Australian accents over the dicks acting in it?

Could go any which way. Not using Gibson as the lead is one good decision. "Fury Road" sounds kind of ridiculous though, like it's gonna be pure action ("Fast and Furious" allusion, perhaps?). One of the nice things about the other three films was the pacing, especially of the first two. Also, this one will undoubtedly use CGI.

I'll definitely be seeing this.

I don't have partic high hopes, but it might be better than Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It already has a better title.

Tom Hardy is good, and I hope the CGI is minimal.

This thing has been rumored about for at least three or four years now and every time I see a new development on the matter on Wikipedia, I get a little school-girl-at-a-Beatles-concert over it. Learning that Miller green lit it and is on board to direct got me excited. Tom Hardy, I know next to nothing about; Joaquin Phoenix seemed like the obvious choice based on his resemblance to Gibson (as seen in Signs). That won't stop me from seeing it, though.
If I remember correctly, Fury Road is supposed to be set between the first and second movies and thus we'll see the return of the Pursuit Special (a Ford Falcoln XB, last of the motherfucking V8s). As usual, I'm probably wrong. But fuck if I don't want to see the Pursuit Special back.

From Wiki:

Mad Max: Furiosa
Mad Max: Furiosa will be shot back to back with Mad Max 4: Fury Road.[3] "We started with Fury Road, but we then started to do a second story and a third, we’ve written the script for the second and almost finished the third."[7]

I thought it was an Interceptor? The last of the V8 Interceptors.

In Mad Max when he ran off the Night Rider it was in an Interceptor. The other squad cars were Pursuits. In Road Warrior when the paralyzed mechanic shows Max he found his booby trap he says, "Last of the V8 Interceptors. A piece of history. Would have been a shame to blow it up."

I also think I read somewhere that it was a chop shop car? Front end of one make and model, back end of another. Either two different Ford models or a Ford and a Pontiac or some shit like that.

you are both right. a modified falcon xb, renamed the pursuit special and interceptor. i'm guessing "last of the v8 interceptors" sounded cooler than "last of the v8 pursuit specialses" for the script.

IIRC, it was a Ford Falcon with a modified nose and a supercharger. The back end was modified for the extra fuel tanks in the second movie. I could totally Wikipedia that right now but I'm drunk and want to be that guy that operates off of memory alone to be all impressive and shit.
Otherwise, I'll trust scntfc.

*Cracks knuckles*

OK. The interceptor was a coupe version of the XB Falcon, built here between '73 and '76.
they looked like this:

these things now go for retarded amounts of money.

The main modification is obviously the Concorde front end, and the supercharger protruding through the bonnet (which is for looks only). The Concorde front was a fairly new accessory at the time, designed by Peter Arcadipane at Ford Australia as a showpiece, and later becoming available to the general public due to its popularity.

Ok, cool. Thanks, bros. Yeah, the only vehicle of the trilogy that I am always 100% sure about is the Goose's Kawasaki K-1000 Police bike from Mad Max. I would love to ride one of those.

Just please tell me you all prefer the undubbed version.

Please.

Merracun accents in the Aus outback just really weirds me out.

Of course. I thought it was kind of a bad movie until I saw the cut with the proper dialogue track. It makes a huge difference in buying the performances. The casting choices for the American dub are all pretty terrible.

Also, Bubba Zanetti, Johnny the Boy and the Toe Cutter are my favorite bad guys out of the entire trilogy.

I've never seen the Merkin dubs. At least I'm fairly certain that I haven't.

Looks a lot like a Road Warrior rehash.
