Band: Demilich

Searched and didn't find 'em here outside of some general discussions. Weird, technical Finnish death metal with impossibly low vocals and absurdly long song titles (Exhibit A: "The Planet that Once Used to Absorb Flesh in Order to Achieve Divinity and Immortality (Suffocated to the Flesh that it Desired...)")

Not Crap -- what say the rest of you?

Great riffs. More inspired than technical, IMO, which is a big compliment, btw.

Nespithe's in my top 3 death metal albums, easily. It's a pity "technical" is a word that's gonna get slung around every time they come up somewhere, because I think they understood technicality is a means to an emotional or atmospheric end, not an end in itself.
That makes me an angry boy.

Nespithe is an amazing album. Ernest of the PRF turned me on via the Sendspace thread.

Nespithe is good but not even in my top 30. Might put on this weekend, been awhile.

Not crap but I don't think there's anything that special about them either

This band deserves all the hype it gets and more. One of the few "fucked up" death metal bands that ACTUALY delivers. The songs are super interesting and well constructed, and always have really interesting parts, something not very common in "brutal" death metal.

The voice it's genious, it actually makes you sick. The whole thing inspires an attraction and a revulsion simmilar to the one you experience when you see a dead body, I can count very few bands that are able to do this (Portal, Corrupted, Caroliner, Whitehouse, some Oxbow...) Also, as with every thing that it's over the top, it's kind of funny and ridiculous at the same time. Nespithe is an absolute landmark of weird, negative music.

NOT CRAP.

To anyone not familiar, here's what you need to know:

To everyone who's already familiar, here's what you need to know, from the official facebook page:

Let's make this official; The Demilich demo compilation will not only be a demo compilation, but will also include Nespithe. Everything we've recorded, from 1991 to 2006, in one package, with old and new artwork, available this year as a 3-LP and 2-CD. Both through Svart Records.

That impossibly low vocal style that guy employs apparently has a name. Why, of course, it is the vocal fry register! It is "produced through a loose glottal closure which will permit air to bubble through slowly with a popping or rattling sound of a very low frequency." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocal_fry_register

Also, I'm grateful to have found this band through the forum. Pretty unique to my ears.

Fry is not that uncommon a thing, you probably hear it everyday. Think of when people say "uuuuuhh?" really slowly. You don't always sound brutal doing it, just buzzy. He's doing more than just singing in vocal fry.

Cool band.

Demilich is one of the very few (can count on my gonads) bands whose logo I'd get a tat of.

A fairly legit review, or at least no worse than you'd find in a metal magazine or blog.

Not Crap but with waffles... The music is cool as fuck, truly truly great stuff.
But I'm having a hard time with the vocals. Not sure because my ear is not trained enough to this genres yet... But I find that singing style quite silly
