I say crap.

Average clean sounds and sludge-hell over-driven sounds.

Also encourages rock soloing.

LOVE my amp.

Not crap.

:WF: 1 because some of the new stuff they're putting out doesn't have the same quality control as the older stuff.

I play bass through a Mesa Boogie 400 and love the way it sounds.

Along with Ampeg they are one of the few companies that still makes an all tube bass amp.

They make good gear. It's way too pricey for those of us that can't afford pricey things.

sterile, beer commercial, lifeless amps.
Appear to be made out of old socks and toilet roll tubes.
Would love a Dual Rectifier though.

I bought a used dual rectifier a couple of years ago and I have nothing bad to say about it, and wouldn't recommend purchasing one either. Never gave me any problems and the used price kept it in my ballpark financially. I Got 'meh' sound out of it for a couple of years, and sold it for more than it should have gone for.

I now have a bassman, which has required a lot of maintenance comparatively (easy to deal with and a-typical of these amps) but sounds infinetely better. I feel like I now know what a great amp is.

Mesa's seem to lack a distinct personality but aren't bad if you have the money to throw on a generic sounding amp that isn't going to break down on you or lose resale value.

But for the price, you can get so much more.

Crap based on the price alone.

Those things are just way too goddamn expensive. They would need to sound far better than they do in order to justify it.

I had a dual rectumfrier. It seems like I was always replacing power tubes, the v1 and/or v2 pres, blah, blah, blah. Then, one day, the rectum burst into flames. I think that was the most rock thing that amp ever did.

Don't know about other Mesa amps, but I'll say CRAP.

NC. while i'm not a *huge* fan of the new triple rectifier ones, for that neo-emo stuff it works. the guitar player in one of my old bands played a travis bean through a mesa mark iii that sounded completely fucking awesome.

As a gear-head, I'm going to say "Not Crap."

Whenever someone mentions "Mesa Boogie," everyone always thinks of Triple Rectifiers with scooped mids.

Of course, they make other amps, and you can always turn the mids up and turn the gain down. The Mark Series are excellent sounding amps that will cut the fuck through a Marshall in the mix. EQ'd right, the Dual Rectifier has some excellent tones, too (note: raise the mids, and stay away from the "modern" gain channel).

Their speaker cabinets, also, are very good.

I'd rather play a DR and have a convincing high-gain tone than play a MXR Dist+ into a Silverface Twin and try to look "cred."

I don't own a Mesa Boogie, but have played several, and seriously considered purchasing a Mark I reissue over my current amp.

Uh, no. I bought a Soldano. I always let out a twisted chuckle whenever I wail on the Soldano at basement shows.

I've got an old Mark I 100 Re and it rules. Great clean, it sounds fantastic with my Travis and when you flick on the RAT it makes a sound that causes other gearheads to shit themselves in jealousy. Plus it is so loud I’ve never turned the master louder than 4!

Another band member bought a dual rectifier a couple of years ago and although he didn't regret buying it, he wouldn't recommend purchasing one either. He's never been happy with the clean channels.

However, I would highly recommend the old Mesa Quad pre-amp. I love it.
