What an incredibly stupid pile of shit.

This might be the funniest thing he's ever said. I'm in stitches.

The creepy and sanctimonious and tongue-up-the-bumhole delivery is genuinely terrifying. What drugs is he on?

I might have to sample "they took over the airports" and "one unified army" and put it in a really chilling tune.

this TED on the corrupt aspects of contemporary representation within democracy featuring some very solid academic studies, and the short talk is well worth watching https://youtu.be/PJy8vTu66tE since it explains how it is not the fault of voters when you get somebody like Trump, and more importantly a rather notable lack of meaningful or effective opposition from other candidates (trump should have been condemned as aberrant from the outset).

Now you mention it there might be a call for some max headroom style hoxton-nightmare HI NRG disco baby hot trump remix with out of time loops and badly cut video, would probably produce more cringe than anything previously available and might clear rooms faster than Russian security. I could indeed leave a bunch of home made VCD CD-ROMs of the product on bus seats and outside 333 club, dressed as santa claus while huffing nitrous and riding a raleigh chopper, before slinking off behind some bins to quietly assassinate myself by burning a motorola startac and inhaling the fumes.

Could also just deposit fake wraps of white powder with a QR code linking to the media product printed inside, and leave those outside dodgy nightclubs. Fake prostitute cards stuck in phoneboxes. Or just print fake money. Spend a day bombing the whole east end

...all we have to do is work out how to make some pay per click advertising money out of it...

haha i have found the opposite approach to be less stressful. maybe it's a generational thing.

i wonder if it helps to call trump fascist. he's never denied it afaik.

I understand the sentiment, but Trump's base eats this shit up like dogfood. Kinda hard to ignore if you are the targets of ire, and this is the real crime of Donald Trump because once he's gone his stink will remain. It's not like the hate will go away if he does. He's doing significant, long-lasting damage. Pressley is a bit wrong here. I mean, I get it if we were talking about modes of distraction other than stoking racial tension that's been simmering since the Civil War.

It's a 'distraction' for their side too. They can't win by by making white christian heritage their central focus. 'Bring back American jobs/revive the coal industry' is probably what put them over the top in 2016 but since that didn't happen.. at best they can try and make a decent economy (by the overrated metric of unemployment rates at least) their focus. Hammering him/them on racism/xenophobia, as well as the catastrophe at the border, is a good thing.

Some goober in the South is just aching for a reason to use his AR-15. These 'distractions' are giving him that reason.

I agree. I've see it close up all the time, especially this week. That rally was 30 minutes from where I live. I stayed out of town. My friend said it was chaotic all day. Like tailgating for white power. All week mother fuckers have had such lightness in their steps, like they have a feather in their cap.

I took her point to be that the function of American racism is and always has been to divide and conquer working folks, and that the way to counteract this is to build solidarity around issues that would benefit everyone (Medicare for All, Green New Deal, etc). The death threats are certainly not lost on her, Omar, AOC, and Tlaib -- incredible heroes and patriots all -- and they've been among the first and most principled voices in calling racism racism.

I'm still in awe of how rational and on-message they all were at that press conference. I feel emotionally undone by all this, and I'm a middle-class white dude.

Didn't Dubya say basically the same thing? I mean, it's not exactly unprecedented for right-wingers to imply that they were chosen by some deity.

sounds like the Evangelical version of "I didn't plan the last ten years of my life for this, honest. My country calls!"

The continuing war with mexico etc. Trump's fictional presidency (a thoroughly narcissistic construct) is a retrogressive pastiche of mid-19th century american politics.

What If Donald Trump Is Just Blind?

This article makes a compelling case, and it would explain quite a bit.
