I'm a fan. It's the only podcast I've ever checked out and immediately felt like catching up from the beginning.

The readings are uniformly great. (Felix of the Trap House and Virgil Texas have been doing a similar thing annotating bullshit punditry over at Genius.) The Ross Douthat segment is a thing of beauty. Same with the ones on that "Transgenders(TM) Ruined My Movie" blogger and the Vox piece from this week's episode.

There are points where it feels too much like I'm on Something Awful but the insights are good enough that I can weather it.

Not Crap.

The gooniness comes in for me when Matt breaks his silence to start yelling at length, but it's usually pretty cathartic. I think they could also use guests who are willing to split with them on details sometimes, as listening to three guys aggressively agreeing will probably wind up getting tedious in a few months.

That aside, I make a point of listening to each week's new episode as soon as it's online. Super funny, absolutely vicious, consistently on-point.

My one concern with Chapo is that, as they noted in the first podcast, catharsis is really bad for political engagement (as best exemplified by aggravating obsequiousness to Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, et al) - the anger and rage tempers the disengagement that comes from laughing, for me.

The first podcast had some questionable content, but I'm a complete grey wolf now and look forward to making it official.

He sounds a bit like Tom Scharpling, which is appropriate enough. I can imagine him boasting that he'll hang @drvox from the Colgate Clock.

The extended Harry Harlow bit in the last episode was sublime.

Man, the first half of the recent Brexit episode was bad. If I never hear any of them attempt another accent it would be too soon. Thankfully they got back up to their usual speed in the second half.

Still, this podcast is still one of the best out there, and it's only a few episodes in! Imagine how good it's going to be once they really get going. Those guys might have made a career for themselves.

When I read this I was really worried but when I listened it was really annoying to me in just that cold open bit about, "The Upset Guv'ner"; Matt was the only one who seemed to really dig in on the accent front and his British accents sound Australian - Felix and Will seemed more about using British slang in embarrassing ways, which wasn't too bad, I still really liked the episode overall.

I have been enjoying this hugely. Especially liked the segment on the "elevator right" and their bloviating yes men, who tend to have avatar pictures featuring angry men in powdered wigs.

Ben Carson thanking "all the vampires and the Frankensteins" made me laugh a lot also.

I like it but I rarely listen to a whole podcast. They're sharp and their hit percentage is good for this sort of thing.

Felix is the most polarizing but I can deal with his bizarre hobby horses most of the time. I did an annotation thing with him and Virgil Texas, but I only spoke to Virgil (who is really nice).

Trap House associate Amber A'Lee Frost is one of my favourite young leftist writers. As is Sam Kriss, though I imagine we'd need a whole other poll on him.

Hmmm. I personally don't remember that but whenever they bang on about failsons and basement dwellers and so on, I assume they're being sarcastic. I always assume whatever they're doing is calibrated for maximum values of scaborousness. They are the Woke Zoo Crew after all.

It is interesting because by British standards of piss taking, most of the stuff they come out with is pretty tame really . Private Eye used to have a running joke (based on a newsreader's slip of the tongue) whereby our Secretary of State for health was called a cunt every two weeks in a magazine available on most newsstands in the country. But as you say punching up vs punching down. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt when they're joking about money and assume the joke is as much against themselves as anyone but that's the risk you run I suppose.

...The counter they went with was something along the lines of "these loser basement dwellers are just jealous because we make money doing this." It just strikes me as odd that an ostensibly leftist podcast would go with that line of attack.

It might be a case of oversensitivity, I definitely thought they were joking / not at all serious when they said that; it fits with a common motif they have where they make fun of the demographics of their listeners, etc. as male 'incels' who live in their parents basement. Felix kept up a pretty good gag about how he's big into the 'no masturbating' movement for quite a while.

There is a strong Twitter vibe that can become tiresome. Still, a very good, mostly funny thing that I am glad is out there. I wish Amber A'lee Frost were a permanent fixture. And the recent interview with the journalist who wrote about Nike's Girl Effect was great.
