I'm going, if only to watch the indie kids squirm while Prurient plays.
Xiu Xiu is great live, though.

Kind of the idea I go for with a lot of my stuff, I'd sing less like a wuss and there's be no pretty anything to it but I like the noisey casio sound

That's a good'un.
I'd recommend an album or something, but none of their albums are consistent enough to say "This one is great through and through" I think. Except maybe La Foret. So here's five songs of theirs I like a whole bunch:

"Hives Hives"
their cover of "Ceremony"
"Apistat Commander"
"Crank Heart"
"Muppet Face"

I like some of their music but that dude writes the most embarrassingly terrible pseudo-gothic bullshit lyrics. I tried a few times but they always get to me and I just can't enjoy the experience because of it.

In the live arena sometimes they seem like a terrible practical joke on their own audience. On record some of their songs have momentum and a sense of rhythm. I've seen versions of these songs where they are reduced to singer-dude stabbing at minor notes on a keyboard and literally whining into a microphone for minutes at end. You actually feel like it's some kind of Spinal Tap for fey indie boys at that stage.

Sorry, Xiu Xiu. I like your name and very, very occasionally your music but you are a silly band! It is silly to like you! CRAP, some waffles.

funny you should mention that. i'm going to a xiu xiu show just to see prurient. not sure if xiu xiu would be worth seeing alone.

Have mixed opinions on this band as well. "Suha" is a really sad song. Will abstain from voting before choosing either c/nc.

NOT CRAP for sure. I can understand why a lot of you could hate the band, though. It's pretty emo with way over the top vocals. It's too arty. It has a lots of things to hate. But I love them.

The other night I was trying to think of who did the terrible cover of "Under Pressure" with Michael Gira. Twas Xiu Xiu. There are some good ones though. I really like the song "Child at Arms".

Bought the tickets today! I don't think Devin Hoff is playing bass with the band this time around, which is a shame seeing as he added a LOT to the show they played in March.

I think there's one really good song in every twelve or so, which isn't a great ratio but better than most I guess. The small amount of tolerance I had for this group further dissipated when Caralee McElroy left.

I agree 'total crap with some good moments' crowd, although without the 'some good moments' bit. Total crap.

the new record is great. lots of "pop" "songs" a la fabulous muscles. thank god they stopped a bit with the avant-gard-creepy stuff.

(they still sound weird as hell, of course)

wasn't aware the new record leaked. should give it a listen.

still love this band. it was conveniently forgotten by my brain, but these guys were really kinda influential to my listening habits. their harsh electronics were instrumental in preparing me for all that noise stuff I listen to now. I got into Throbbing Gristle and Xiu Xiu at roughly the same time, so those two and Skinny Puppy's Last Rights provided me with that final boost I needed.

I feel confident in saying that "Hives Hives" is one of my favorite songs.
