I like most Tropicalia, some bossa nova and a fair bit of Brazilian psych, so yes.

This was produced by FM Bernardo and it is completely, totally, and unremittingly fucking great:

https://testgrind.bandcamp.com/album/esp-cies

This is also next-level amazing:

https://propositorecs.bandcamp.com/albu ... ain-lachee

And this is from FM B himself, just unreal:

https://sinewave1.bandcamp.com/album/berne-fatal

Bernardo, it is slowly becoming apparent to me just how deeply involved you are in new music from Brazil. Seriously, when the fuck do you sleep?!

You're too kind, I'm not half as productive as you make me sound. There's A LOT of music going on right now here. I'm actually sitting on a countless number of unfinished projects, trying to be more diligent about getting the stuff out.

Also, if anyone is interested, the majority of what I've worked on or played in over the last few years is linked to at

http://fabricadesonhos.bandcamp.com/

EDIT: since then I made this page to link to most of the stuff I've played on, the previous one is for stuff that's been done at my place:

My drum teacher has been showing me how to play some rudimentary bossa nova stuff and it's fun as hell to play. I know nothing about this genre, any recommendations on where to start?

Though I'm apparently the resident brazilian of the PRF (the last other active one hasn't posted in a while), I'm not a bossa nova fan, but I can direct you to the most obvious, widely known reference, which is the first three João Gilberto albums:

Couldn't find the third one, the cover is a picture (portrait? coloring is odd) of his face, him, holding his chin.

His acoustic guitar playing and style of singing are considered landmarks over here. A much earlier singer who was sort of a pioneer for that type of approach, and who I'm a big fan of, was Mario Reis, from the early 30's:

I'm big on this era of samba. The latter track in particular, and the comp I first heard it on, was a personal turning point in my musical taste. It can be had for next to nothing:

Here are a couple of releases from the last few years that I've gotten into recently:

This just came out, percussion and vocals only, and the whole playlist is here:

This guy has a distinctive voice and some great songs, the entire genre he is in is probably interesting for people who are not familiar with the less widely circulated types of brazilian music. Track two is a favourite:

You may try this:

It's from the 90's, the lead singer there went on to do A LOT of stuff, if that record happens to be to anyone's taste I can post links to what came afterwards.

Missed this first time round, but one of the albums Seby linked to (Mpala Garoo) is actually (I think) russian, though Proposito is a brazilian label.

I had the fortune of recently mixing the latest record by one of the artists I mentioned in the first page, Karina Buhr:

I really like the record (as with all her previous ones, which I had no involvement with).

Also, Siba, who was mentioned a few posts back, has since also released a new record:
