Noting that he has successfully directed "Going Down Like The Hindenburg..." docs more than one time...

Here we go, saying this publicly: That Phish documentary is pretty good!

Can't stand a note of that band's music, but that documentary was entertaining.

I'm totally digging the new trailer. And Zazie Beetz track record for choosing great projects makes me excited as well.

One little detail there that is worth a mention...

The guy who pops him in the nose?

Thomas Wayne.

I only like heaths and only heaths rendition, apart from being an inherently superior actor, because his was eerily reminiscent of tom waits. both the tv personality tom and the musician tom. tom is an american hero. never a weakling, much to the contrary ..only too filled with lust for life to be anything less than what he was. that heath channelled that into his interpretation of a classic american anti-hero was to me very well articulated and strongly appropriate.

if i was in mr phoenix shoes id have considered it thoroughly bad form to accept a — yet another — marvel “joker” role not a decade after heath’s suicide. very poor taste imo.

ill be seeing star wars first, put another way.

I will enjoy it considerably more if there's no Batman in this movie whatsoever. The last goddamned thing we need is another goddamned Batman.

From what I understand, the kid behind the fence in the initial trailer is Bruce Wayne.

Yeah, still all-in on seeing this opening night. Looks fantastic.

Anything vaguely batman-related has my number since, like, 3rd grade. Why stop now.

Thats the psychotic projection of jwalkin’s lonesome inner child, standing on the outside looking in. It symbolizes the dual nature that is so intrinsic to his personality.. spoiler alert, dont look jimmy: ive heard that they reveal at the end that the joker is actually batman.

theyll be doing a character study of the penguin next

i'm definitely interested in the origin story and seeing this film, but you're hitting on something interesting. the impression i got from part of the Dark Knight was that his origin story doesn't matter, and that's kind of the point of the Joker. he tells 2 different stories about how he got his facial scars -- in one, someone did it to him, and in another, he did it to himself. i took that as signifying that his origins are immaterial, that his existence can't be explained away or made sensible by examining the origins of his insanity.
I composed and produced the album California is Cold by Shahmen. Our song Poison has a video.

I always interpreted this as a manifestation of traumatic repression, or maybe a re-imagining of something otherwise too banal for the desired effect, but this take seems more correct.

My understanding of how DC comics has handled it in recent years is that his origin in the comics got told and retconned and re-told so many times that they're all valid origins in the Joker's own mind, which was what Nolan was adapting with the Heath Ledger Joker's various "how i got these scars" stories. Not to mention the exposition early on where they explain that he has no ID, his fingerprints are burned away (or there's just no hit on them in police records, i forget), etc.

...Anyway, after this new trailer, i continue to be very "meh" on this, but i'm sure many people will enjoy it! Go to town, y'all.
