Not Crap!

Yesterday I listened to "Somewhere in time" (very underrated) after years, ten seconds into the riff of the 2nd song and it got to me again, This is exciting! very well made, very distinct sound of a tight heavy metal band.
Steve Harris's bass guitar is so busy on this album.

I know there are lots of haters out there, I never got that.

Kerble, the prodigal son, is sure to send you to purgatory, or if you are lucky into innocent exile, before allowing you to post again in another life.

CRAP.

that overwrought histrionic vocal styling thing is not my cup of tea.

plus the music itself just sounds so bland and fucking pedestrian.

I loved them as a young girl, and still enjoy some songs.
Some crappy elements (histrionic vocals as Sprague Dawley says) but still they managed to go into "epic" territory without being cheesy or ridiculous (not easy, hehehe) (in tje first period, at least) . Also, I respect them for their attitude. Not crap!

Paul DiAnno who sang on the first two albums didn't have that type of voice IMO. My personal appreciation of Iron Maiden primarily comes from the debut and "Killers" with a little of "Number of the beast" thrown in. Starting with "Piece of mind", their music started to sound either "overwrought" (=the epics) *or* watered-down (the more anthemic sing-alongs) even if I like "the Trooper" and a few of their later tracks

true about the vocals although I find that some "epic" flavour has always been there (listen to "Phantom of the opera" for instance)
Anyways I prefer the Di Anno period as well, but I enjoy some stuff with Dickinson too (the Rime of the Ancient Mariner IMO is a good example of one really "epic" song that don't suck... as I said, not easy :P )

Even though this thread is a bit of a drifter and seems to have taken on another life, you can't have more than one Iron Maiden thread, it's giving me deja vu.

Anyway those are the rules, and if you don't like it, you can always start your own forum (I'm running freeBBS).
