In my opinion he has to be one of the strangest and talented vocalists I have ever heard, he can do some freaky stuff with his voice. I really dig Mr. Bungle and the Dillinger Escape Plan ep - Irony is a Dead Scene. I havn't listened to much Faith No More so I really have no opinion of them.

I give him not crap

Have you heard any of his stuff with Fantomas? I have recently got into them because Buzz Osbourne, the guitarist from Melvins plays in Patton's Fantomas as well. Back in high school one of my best friends was a huge Mr. Bungle and to a lesser degree Faith No More fan, and was a big influence on his own music. Some of Patton's musical frenetic qualities aside I don't think he is so bad. So not crap I guess.

I think Patton's ability to add some new unique quality to the music he makes with other established artists is really amazing. He releases a ton of new material every year and most of the time it ranges from great to very good (except that record he released with X-ecutioners). If you haven't heard his contributions to the Eyvind Kang record "Virginal Coordinates" you are really missing out. Total NOT CRAP.

He is a wild maniac who works with just about everyone in the business. I didnt like faith no more at all until listening to angel dust and king for a day fool for a lifetime numerous times. Then I realised how cool they actually were. Theres not a lot this guy wont try. I wouldnt be too surprised if he released a record with him doing the sex or something wild like that, maybe he has already done it. He has a wide range of style in all the music he works on, and ofcourse there is going to be some that is crappy or not as good as the rest, but that doesnt outweigh all the good stuff that he has created. Even if it came close to coming even with the ammount of good music he has released, everything he stands for is good

There is that CD he released where he and some female vocalist(her name fails me currently) went and just sang about sex and made noises like they were sexing.... or they actually were sexing, that wouldn't be a surprise. The name of this little project of his fails me at the moment, some of ots npt bad thought.

Crap. Waffle Factor of 1 for that first Fantomas record. Come on, guys, this shitclown was in Faith No More. Remember, just because it's weird doesn't mean it's good!

And just because legions of jackasses think it's "weird" and "interesting" and "mindblowing" doesn't make it any of those things. CRAP. I hate everything the guy has had any creative input in.

Yes, but being weird does mean it gets a better shot at being good than something that's utterly normal.

I like Mike Patton - he doesn't restrict himself, and he follows his muse. Sometimes the results are good, sometimes not so good. But as a fellow noisemaker, I generally get into a lot of what he's into.

Dude is in love with the sound of his own voice, particularly when manipulated by electronics. I realize, especially after reading this thread, that this is often a detractor from my enjoyment of the music his voice accompanies. I used to think I was a Patton fan, I think now that I am just a fan of the bands he ends up in.

CRAP on the grounds of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. I haven't heard most of his many, many collaborations, except the much-hyped appearance on Bjork's Medulla, which was pretty inconsequential.

Not Crap.

Once, at a Faith No More show, he did a cover of an excellent Burt Bachrach song (originally sung by Gene McDaniel) called "Tower Of Strength"

One of my favorite songs ever.

He just BELTED it.

Made me a believer.

Just cause he's in Faith no More doesn't make him an ass clown. he has done alot of good stuff and quite a bit of bad stuff, atleast he is open minded to try alot of different things. I really think its wrong to judge him unless you have heard alot of his work.

but thats just my own opinion

I think now that I am just a fan of the bands he ends up in.

yeah the bands are always awesome.
Secret Chiefs 3, is awesome(I know it has nothing to do with him but its the guys from Mr. Bungle)

CRAP

WF of 7 for the last Mr bungle album and his work with The Dillinger Escape Plan. He should have just joined The Dillinger Escape Plan, as I think they're perfect for each other. Instead DEP just got some meathead that really wishes he was Mike Patton.

NOT CRAP! For being tirelessly creative. Sure, it's not to everybodys taste, but on the whole this man creates and gets involved with some very interesting stuff.

The jury's still out on his stuff with the Dillinger Escape Plan though...

CRAP.

The most annoying vocalist I can think of.

FNM were exactly 1068798 times better with Chuck Mosely on vocals.

CRAP.

I keep seeing people that profess to believe this. I have trouble with it myself, because having listened to the stuff Chuck did with FNM, Mike's singing is honestly either on par or above par. Go back and listen to, I think it is the Crab Song, with the sorta-singing intro. Then listen to Mike croon "Easy." There's no comparison, Mike's voice is simply better.
