Is it Toby Driver?

douchey hipsterism, but holy hell Dead Cross were better with Gabe Serbian on vocals.

Honestly I don't expect him to "sing", he uses his voice as an instrument, as if it was a guitar with various effects on it. Why people find it irritating, I dunno. I find him focused on the result rather than on the flashy technique itself. I'd put him and Galas among the interesting, tasteful hypertechnical and somewhat "weird" singers, and Demetrio Stratos among the pompous and pretemptious ones.

Anyways Fantomas may be the only band he played in that I really like a lot.
Dead Cross is not bad but nothing too memorable IMO

This, pretty much. There was a time when I thought it was interesting. That wore off many years ago.

I can't think of any band or project that he performs in that I enjoy, except maybe Lovage. He's a decent label owner who treats his artists well, and he does what he wants artistically without regard for what's popular, but that's about the best I can say.

If you liked the Lovage and/or the Mondo Cane records, the new record with Jean-Claude Vannier is really good.

I've written before I think he works best where he just sings and hasn't got control over the entire band/project:

This record does what it should do.

Vocalist Mike Patton: NC, some waffles for when he tries to sing and ends up in a pit of warbly melisma.

Yeah, listened to a couple tracks from this last night and dug it a bunch. Also caused me to look up the Mondo Cane record from 2010 which i never got around to sampling, and that was fucking delightful.

In my years I've found that there is a thing where only people in the midwest seem to really be into MP. People a over the world are like "I remember him.. he's weird" but is you are from St. Paul... you'll fight about that shit. He's on I guess... he did a great BeeaGees

"Epic" and the first Bungle record = they've been basically the Chili Peppers their entire career!

What?

I'm saying that's the logic of people who hear one song and assume every song is that song.

The same people would be calling FNM "movie soundtrack music" if the Midnight Cowboy theme was the single.

i'm over 4 years late in defending myself but i only meant The Real Thing when i said "funk metal". it's been a while since i heard it but it sounded very funky and metally, and also shitty. he also sung in a fucking annoying nasally voice. i have heard most of their material since my brother really got into them and i am well aware the rest sounds way different to "funk metal", but i'll concede that it probably just didnt come off that way in my original post. so yeah, a quick clarification only 4 years late.

also since it's 4 years later and my vote has been wiped, i really don't know what to put it as. i sort of like fantomas, and disco volante by mr bungle, and a few select FNM tracks. i also respect his vocal ability and ipecac is a pretty good label. at the end of the day though, i don't enjoy the majority of his music and some stuff i've read about him in this thread makes me think it's a bit of a tosser.
