I keep seeing people that profess to believe this. I have trouble with it myself, because having listened to the stuff Chuck did with FNM, Mike's singing is honestly either on par or above par. Go back and listen to, I think it is the Crab Song, with the sorta-singing intro. Then listen to Mike croon "Easy." There's no comparison, Mike's voice is simply better.

Mike is a 'better' technical singer than Chuck.

Steve Vai is a 'better' technical guitarist than Steve Albini.

I prefer the sound of Chuck's singing and Mr Albini's guitar playing.

And what a guitarist he is! Can Steve double hand tap like the devil? Was Steve in Whitesnake? Is Steve's hair as wonderful and flowing as, erm, Steve's?

I will say this though, FNM were never really the band alot of us would like to think they were. Alot of that cheesy keyboard playing should really have been excised. As with alot of the RRRAWK guitar. Hang on a minute, we're left with precious little after that...

And this ladies and gentlemen is why one should never attempt the use of catchphrases from the wrong forum.

I apologise for the terrible mess that I have caused.

Fair enough. I simply disagree with half of your statement.

I'm a fan of most eveything I've heard from Patton. I was a big fan of FNM in my teens, and most of it still bears a listen. Mr Bungle ditto, especially the first album. Tomahawk was a let-down for me but still ahs it's moments.

The Lovage album (Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By) is fantastic.

Haven't heard any Fantomas but may have to soon due to an increasing interest in The Melvins.

No-one has mentioned Patton's bizarre fascination with his own excreta...

ie drinking his own piss, drinking someone else's piss after it was thrown on stage, shitting on a bench outside Buckingham Palace shortly before being interviewed by Melody Maker, shitting into hotel hairdryers so that the next user would receive 'a faceful of pellets'.

Don't know if any of this is true, but WTF....

Not Crap on a bench.

I called him a "shitclown," if that matters.

Isn't he into eating shit, too?

The one I remembered hearing back in the day was that at each hotel they stayed in while on tour he would leave a big shit in the ice machine.

Dunno if this is just crazy urban legend going extra-kookoo or not... but if he really did, then fuck him - I haven't looked at communal ice machines the same since =(

stories like that reinforce that he is also a complete cock, regardless of what you think of his music.

fittingly, his music is complete shit.

he has a good voice and seems like he means it when he's in front of the mic.

but far too much hero-worship associated with patton and FNM and his laundry-list of project bands.

NOT CRAP

I think he deserves not crap just for the amount of work he does, none of it being that commercial. Whether it's all compensation for nasal crimes on The Real Thing, I don't know. But I'd Not Crap Dave Grohl for the same reason.
