yes, that is very very cool of them & very very sweet of you.

nice fake italian tribute too, fmaj. i hope that i will finally be able to catch them live the next time they are here, have always been out of town in the past.

have listened to the new record a couple times. the last couple albums haven't clicked with me like many of the earlier ones, but it seems like they are still really in to it & i don't think they are phoning it in, it's just different.

That is awesome, Chad.

They are very approachable people. Both times I've seen them Greg has been in front of the stage talking to fans before and after the show.

I think they are much more significant as a live concern than on record, though I do like a lot of their records and none of them suck. There are no bands I've enjoyed watching more, though. John and Ed are like the same mind transplanted into two excellent guitar players -- their ability to play off each other is kind of uncanny (both in Deerhoof and Colossamite).

They touring Europe now:

Feb 14 Warsaw, Dzik - with Marcin Masecki & Pictorial Candi
Feb 16 Berlin, Lido - with Farfara
Feb 17 Leipzig , Conne Island - with Julian Sartorius
Feb 18 Frankfurt , Zoom - with Julian Sartorius
Feb 19 Paris , Petit Bain - with Pneu
Feb 20 Mons , Maison Folie - with Trash Kit
Feb 21 Amsterdam , Melkweg - with The Mysterons
Feb 23 Bristol , Marble Factory - with Cowtown
Feb 24 Glasgow , Stereo - with Cowtown
Feb 25 Leeds , Brudenell Social Club - with Cowtown
Feb 26 London , Oval Space - with Cowtown & Trash Kit
Feb 28 Saint Malo, La Route Du Rock Festiva

I saw them yesterday and had tons of fun even though I could only see guitarists heads as the stage was maybe 10 inches tall. Ed Rodriguez has now long, curly hair and looks very much like young Tom Araya which is awesome.

I've seen them probably 50 or 60 times and they are consistently that good. What a joy.

I saw them a couple of weeks ago. A fine evening.

I believe they're coming back to the UK later in the year. I will do my best to attend.

What a drummer.

finally seeing them in August again, yay!

ANYWAY... i was at the Greg Saunier / La Colonie de Vacances show a week ago, which was really incredible. basically 4 awesome French trios playing at the same time, with Greg guitaring in one of them. i suspect the first ~50 minutes was a piece brought in by Greg, while the second ~40min set was the group's usual tunes? (the bands have been doing this for a few years now apparently).

it might seem like a gimmick at first, but the format has a lot of potential. it really has to be experienced live, for the sense of space and being able to move around and focus on each band at a time if you want. many people were standing near one of the stages with their backs at the band watching the other 3, which provides an interesting balance -- or you can be in the center of the maelstrom and get totally swept away.

the actual feeling was seriously something beyond my imagination. (though i don't do drugs so maybe i'm limited  ) ... i definitely hope this collaboration continues and they push the form forward -- if you ever get the chance to attend such a quadrophonic show, do not miss it.

Yeah, I know Papier Tigre and Marvin were a part of that a few years ago. It looked pretty cool, and those bands are great individually.

I saw an hour long piano piece composed by Greg performed last weekend (by someone other than Greg). There were little snippets of his music I'd heard before interspersed In a couple spots. Interesting to hear those bits that were so familiar to me spring up recontextualized.

The rock band in which he plays guitar, Les Bon Hommes also played which was a pleasure. It seems he can more overly channel his love of Keith Richards whilst playing guitar.
