Asthamtic Kitty is releasing the new TW record O Zeta Zunis this August. Stereogum is streaming a couple of new tracks. I've peeked inside and it is real good, particularly ""5-7-10 Split." Now to put it back under the tree and wait for Christmas in August.

I'm a little biased cause they are friends of mine and I played with them briefly in the mid 90's.
My love for the band predates the friendship though and I'll stand by many of there records. The early stuff with Glenn especially spasm smash is classic. Later records like (the sadly unmastered before being pressed to vinyl) Milktrain to Paydirt, Action Ornaments and Apistogramma are really good also Fragments of a lucky break from 97 or 98.

One of my favorites. I probably listen to Spasm once a month, still.

They're mostly through with a European tour right now. Some dates in Italy and the UK left (London = Dec. 10).

The Berlin show was empty, sadly, though they were OK with it since it was packed last time. About 15 people showed up. They felt bad, despite giving everyone their money's worth, so they halved the new LP price and bought everyone a beer. Goddamn drummer walked right up to me and put it in my hand. Those are some lovely, lovely guys.

Of course, the music is not crap.

I lucked out in seeing them at the Funhouse for a very last minute one-off a few months ago. Kevin flew out for a wedding in Seattle, things happened, hence the show. A terse show, but they proved again they can entertain even on short notice.

Got a disc of it yesterday, and hell yes. It also seems to have some (fully formed) songs that can't found anywhere else, such as:

I'd never paid any particular attention before to how they have such an instantly identifiable sound.

My memories of them in Philly are sitting real close to them at the bar at the Khyber. Them being big basketball fans especially Julius" Dr J" Erving fans and staying from happy hour to last note.
I remember the bouncer coming around to charge for the show and my conversation turning to their band. I believe I was practicing keeping my cool with a band that I envied. This might have been for [i]Fragments[\i]. it's really fuzzy after all this time.

That is great.

The Casbah is still open, btw. Still doing rock shows. I saw Trumans Water a bunch, but never in their home city.

It would be hard to put into words just how antithetical to the whole San Diego 'thing' TW were.

I also saw them a few years past their peak at the Dublin Castle in Camden, where they opened with an impromptu rap in collaboration with the two North London doormen. Total jump-around crowd-pleaser! NC.

NOT CRAP. "Of Thick Tum" and "Spasm Smash" are works of insane hyperactive brilliance. Taling of which, they've just announced on Facebook that they've finally got the rights back for their Homestead albums, hinting at reissues in the near future...
