Useful little read: http://nypress.com/no-trend-didnt-just- ... core-fans/

(And inspiring too!)

If they were British they'd have been idolised in that 80s noise scene, I think.

We're spoiled (and much like the British) up our own asses about what deserves praise with bands like this over here in the States.

They're a great band, and it seems to be the running theme that a band this good will usually reap the benefits or see their due about 20 years down the line in countries like this and the UK.

No Trend are fucking phenomenal.

It's the cover of the first EP isn't it? I wonder who drew it.

Ahh, okay. You're right.

Reminds me of Pettibon, but I seriously doubt he did it.

It reminds me of a 2000 AD artist I can't quite place, but whoever that person is certainly didn't do it either.

EDIT: Ah ha, answer here: http://www.discogs.com/No-Trend-Teen-Lo ... ase/924006

I don't think it's that Jim Jones.

It's the cover of both the Teen Love releases, the first was a 7" with three songs, the second was a 12" with four songs and different recordings of the previous three. Correct me if I'm wrong but the artwork is done by Jim Jones aka Frankenberry aka Frank Price, the original guitarist of No Trend.

Glad his NY Press article is still up! I looked for it a few months back and I swear the link was broken.

Worth it in the end, of course.

When my hours go up this Summer, the 7" is what I'm hunting for. It's better anyway.

Both the records rule and should not be ignored, but the pessimist in me prefers the (often mentioned on this forum, by myself) slower, more menacing version of Cancer and the more hilarious deadpan delivery Jeff has on the first version of Teen Love, both of which are found on the 7". The additional lyrics for the title track on the 12" are neat, but the song loses some of its hilariousness and power with me on it for some reason. Frank's guitar work on both versions of Cancer is just the most brilliantly fucked up thing ever. Love it.

Been in Korea for some weeks. Here till around June 1. Not checking in too often.

Too Many Humans, Teen Love, and perhaps the rest of the NT catalog will be reissued by Blast First Petite. Format and date still TBD. Jeff Mentges moves glacially and is fairly hard to gauge, to say the least. But it WILL happen. I'll be coordinating it in some capacity.

Me, too. And yes, you are correct. Frank drew the covers of the 7" EP (entitled Skin Shedding Snake People... ); the 12" EP (entitled Teen Love w/re-recodings of the 7" plus two extra tunes); and the compilation CD on Teen Beat (entitled Teen Love: The Early Months and technically a bootleg sanctioned only by a disgrunted early drummer). The latter release features the band's first demo (two of the same songs as the 7") plus poor early live stuff from before they learned how to play.

The "slow" version of "Cancer" is not on the first 7" EP, however. It appears only on the original demo, the Teen Beat CD, and the No Trend UK compilation LP When Death Won't Solve Your Problem. For the original 7", the band used the demo versions of "Teen Love" and "Mass Sterilization" but they were unsatisfied w/"Cancer" and opted to re-record it. This exclusive version has never been reissued and it falls somewhere between the 7" and 12" versions.

ATTN NO TREND FANS: Frank Price's post-NT band, Mission for Christ, will be the subject of a fantastic new CD, provisionally entitled 2 Jews, a Black, a Woman and a Cripple, out this summer on Finland's Ektro Records label. I acted as reissue coordinator and wrote the liner notes. Frank doesn't play on the CD (he joined the band in its final months and that studio session is lost) but MFC's only 7", "Pennies From Hell," released by No Trend Records in 1984, is featured along w/30 minutes of previously unissued material that will definitely appeal to any and all NT enthusiasts. Coming this summer, keep your eyes on this page:
