All I really know is Nothingface but that is a hell of a record. One of my favorite bass sounds in a metal band.

I'm afraid to listen to their new tracks. But perhaps I should. It might affect my willingness to go see them play now.

Too bad the Dimension Hatross days are over.

I was wearing my Voivod shirt tonight (and listening to War and Pain as my driving music) so was feeling very Voivod as you can imagine. Chris Hall says something about how one of the guys from Voivod posts on this forum. I'm like, yeah right sure. I can't believe I missed this post from noiro, who has been a member of this forum for 8 years?! At first I thought it must be Jean-Yves, as "noir" is black, like Blacky. Then I noticed noiro is Orion backwards so then I don't know.

Mind = blown. A member of Voivod a member of this forum since 8 years ago.

Just last week, while unpacking a box after moving, I found *all* of my old cassettes from the 80's and 90's. That includes War and Pain, RRROOOAAARRR, Killing Technology, and a tape with Dimension Hatross on one side and Nothingface on the other (I had bought them both on CD but the others were only available on cassette back then, at least at the record store I used to shop at), and that means awesome, awesome driving music ahead for my Cougar.

Did anyone else ever own RRROOOAAARRR on cassette by any chance? Mine came from the store with a defect, I forget now which side it was, but one side began with the last few seconds of a song and then went into the first song on the side. I haven't listened to that tape for probably 15 years, when I packed away all my old tapes into that box. Cannot wait to listen to it again.

If I could magically change the past, one thing I would do is change the lineup of the second or third live show I ever saw, Coroner at the Thirsty Whale, and replace Atrophy who were terrible with Voivod who would have ruled.

Time to stop daydreaming and start sleep-dreaming. Maybe I'll get lucky and see that show in my dreams tonight.

They are also playing Mojoes in Joliet on July 28th and, the Away signature snare is a thing of beauty.

Love em. I love the twisty guitar shit going on and the syncopated beats they introduced me to. Up to, and including Angel Rat (with consideration) were pretty fucking solid in my book. Great records and brought it live. Frog Canadian wizards!

I don't like every album but I have been a big fan since the mid-80's. I still listen to them all the time - albums from every era.

I've seen them live on several occasions and they always put on a good show (well, I didn't really dig the Nothingface concert at the time. They pretty much only played new stuff).

The Dimension Hatross show remains one of my all time best concert experiences.

My girlfriend and I met Away a couple of times recently. He was just about the nicest band guy I've talked to. He spoke English just fine.

War and Pain & Rrroooaaarrr are rowdy as hell and still listen to them pretty frequently. Not going to mess with these dudes.

Hmm, actually I don't quite agree. Fantasising about the future is less pathetic than fantasising about the past. "In the future, this place will be all robots (in my imagination)" is marginally cooler than "in the past, this place was all elves (in my imagination)".

It took awhile for me to get into Voivod, but once I did it was for life. Whatever you may think of the last couple of records matters not when put into context. On Denis's deathbed (fuck you, brain cancer), he gave Michel the password to his computer and basically said, "Here's two albums worth of songs with guitar tracks already recorded. Finish them."

They did and went on to play many shows, paying tribute to him at each one. That's fucking awesome. Dude's previous music would have lived on without him, but he was still making shit until he couldn't.

At the time "Infini" was released, I was watching my aunt disintegrate from various cancers. It was therapeutic for me to leave the hospital, listen to these recordings and think that, even in the face of a cancerous death, you could still look forward and make things happen to the best of your abilities. Not give up. Salut Denis and Voivod!
