When you realize the only reason you get out of bed in the morning is to make sure the cat doesn't starve...

Then it's sad.

Theres an episode of WTF with Mark Hanson where he talks about the day he tried to kill himself and the reason his roommate figured out what was going on was because he left a bag of cat food open on the floor for his cats. And how after he got well he understood he had walked out on the cats (and everyone else in his life) and came to realize they depend on him and love him. I think that anecdote tugged at me more than anything else.

Spoken like someone who doesn't have a cat. Cat will be all over you after a certain point - relentlessly. Eventually you have only two choices: 1) feed cat. 2) kill cat.

My cats curl up right next to me. They'd wake me up more if they couldn't get in the room.

it's the highlight of my day.

he doesn't need me to. the world we were both born into had him designed into my ownership.

he doesn't feel owned. he owns me.

not sad.

I dunno, I have been watching cats eat a lot lately, and it does seem pretty shameful and sad. Don't feel that way about dogs eating--they have a certain joie de vivre.

The Moose is obsessed with food, and agitates daily for larger portions and more frequent meals and better-quality (i.e. wet) chow. He is overweight at 16 pounds, though, and I cannot indulge him. He eats with gusto every time he's fed, and then retires to nap, often on his back with his tummy exposed, snoring. Not sad!

Ever go in, get on your hands and knees and stare directly into your cats eyes as it shits? You have to time it just right to where he can't back out of it, he's too far along and has to complete the act, but it's fucking amazing.
It'll blow your mind, man, for real. All of life's secrets, all pain, all joy, right there to behold, right in its beady little eyes, in that moment, then, just like that, it's over, he jumps out of the litter box and runs off and you are back in reality.
