Valid. And yeah, I agree. There's something about the narrative record that resonates with me from time to time, and this was one of them, better judgement be damned.

When it sounded a little like Suicide at the very beginning, that was cool.

But then when the vocals came in, I just felt like I was in an episode of Image

"Velcome to Sprockets . . . and now we dance."

And then I just wanted it to go away.

It's obviously about him exposing his flaws and his need to romanticize things in order to cope.

Yeah, obviously. What's surprising (to me) is that:

a. He's however old he is now and still has this apparent need

b. He wasn't more aware of and sensitive to the class and race implications of his romanticizing his bad, dangerous neighborhood. He is a guy who normally possesses that kind of awareness and sensitivity.

It's record company / record marketing bullshit, but he went along with it.

That new track that Mike posted is really good.

I gave up on this band a while ago now! Bad band, great t-shirts.

Pretty hit or miss, but that first record is incredible.

Not crap though.

Well, the new song does have this cringer in it:

Me too. I recall thinking, the music is pretty good why does this guy have to ruin it with his expressions of emotion. I recall Greg Saunier playing with them but I don't remember what he was doing specifically.

Didn't this lineup fall apart when their gear got stolen in Missoula on the tour for Knife Play?

I like to imagine the song being about sex and intimacy, "stupid in the dark". I guess I can ignore what it is actually talking about.

NOT CRAP. a month or two ago i sent what was basically a fan email to Jamie Stewart and he responded and was the nicest guy (and said he dug my music!). not a fan of "la foret" or "women as lovers" but the others are either mostly good or all good.

Cannot wait for the new one. I seriously think it'll be the best one since Fabulous Muscles, and it's pretty much the first time I've ever thought that about a new Xiu Xiu record since I started paying attention. It sounds like it'll be a return to, and reclamation of, the diseased self-loathing on the first two records, except it's going to be even more electronic. There's not going to be any guitar on this record.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.
