It doesn't look like this has been done yet. I'm interested to see what people here think about them. Personally I give them a pretty enthusiastic NOT CRAP. They're good musicians who write interesting songs. Corin Tucker's voice (which I know keeps a lot of people from liking them) has improved a lot on their last couple of records.

I've heard a few of their songs and what I've heard has been pretty good. I haven't really been motivated yet to listen to an entire album. Still, they're probably not crap.

Very strong with Dig Me Out and The Hot Rock but as they've got larger seem to have slid into slightly journeywoman/career working band territory, churning it out. Last couple of times I saw them (one on either side of the Atlantic) they looked toured out and bored. Lovely people tho, esp. Carrie. Have to give them a NOT CRAP, but it's getting tenuous.

Add a poll and let the people decide. I give 'em a not crap. One of my favorite carpet-rock bands.

Hmm, I've tried posting a poll now like five times and it hasn't worked at all. Sorry.

Although I haven't been thehugest fan of the last few records, though One Beat was far far better All Hands on the Bad One, Sleater Kinney get's a huge NOT CRAP vote from me.

For two reasons:

1) For a long time they put about absolutely amazing records, especially Dig Me Out and the Hot Rock.

2) The past two years has found me working with teenagers, who are extremely impressionable. A lot of the kids are into music and instruments, but bad mainstream music, but, especially for the girls, Sleater-Kinney has lured more of them away from the mainstream crap factory and given them tons of new ideas for art, music, politics, etc.

NOT CRAP, but since i'm a big fan of the band i have to add:

I didnt really like "one beat"...it has a lot of good songs but it has one overtly political song (which i can never quite stomach no matter how much i might agree), and the song "pristina" has some of the most awful avril-esque lyrics ever. somehow those 2 songs cast a shadow on a lot of the better ones.

my favrotie album of theirs is ''the hot rock''...no one, including the band, seems to agree with me.

Whatever. They are so unbelieveably overhyped by all these washed up fools with no sense of melody. I like Janet's kinetic drumming, but their songwriting is utter shit. Plus Jello's vibrato (and Mariah Carey's) is the only shaky voice thing I can really stand. See:bright eyes, SKinney.

Crap.

Not crap, by a narrow margin. From the smattering I've heard so far, they got a couple way classy songs and a bunch of sort of meh ones. Janet and Carrie are pretty impressive. Corin's voice bugs me.

Not crap in the least.
'Call the doctor' is as perfect a record as they come.
Even their crappy records ('one beat' 'all hands') are pretty good, and have at least a few great moments each.
The new record is growing on me, slowly.
Live they've never let me down. They are nice people, as well.
My ladyfriend and I drove up to Madison from Chicago once to see them and when they found that fact out, they took us out for pizza.
Super not crap move.

I'm gonna say Not Crap.

However, I went to one of their shows once where they demanded that the crowd part so they could wheel in a projector and show one of their own videos before the show would start.

I found that tremendously lame. The video was WAY gae, as well.

However, props go out to the girl with the loud "annoying" voice for keeping it up amidst so much constant criticism. That can't be easy with another singer in the band who's voice is much more "vanilla" and tolerable. Salut, vibrato voiced survivor!!

THEY demanded everyone part and THEY wheeled in a projector? Did they actually come out on stage and demand this? Did they actually wheel it in? Maybe they had nothing to do with it. Just because it happened right before they played dosen't mean they made it happen.

I was there, mang.

One of them was onstage with the mic directing traffic thru the crowd and talking about how great it was to make the video, etc.

I had a really nice spot and lost it due to the projector.
