Makes nice cars. Other than that I don't know much about him except for his people-mover idea that he clearly stole from Disneyland.

Way I see it, that's a great way to burn up a perfectly good launch pad in half the time.

Based on that car, not crap.

It's an amazing car. It would be amazing if it burned gas and got horrible mileage.

A co-worker has one. I've ridden in it a few times, and it is nice, particularly the acceleration. (Which the co-worker does like to show off--hell, who wouldn't?) Upsides: a lot more storage space than you'd think (there's a trunk in back...and all that storage in front), and they also offer huge crumple zones.

Downside...pricey, 280-mile range, and apparently if you leave it parked for a while, it'll drain. Overall, easily the most viable electric car I can think of.

Hyperloop...would be cool if thermal expansion wasn't such a terrible problem.

Model S was off the charts in the NHTSA safety test.

It was also Car of the Year 2012 in half a dozen of the high-profile car magazines.

Am I the only one that finds these electric no-grille cars beyond ugly?
I know they don't need a grille, but still, why not make the fake one, to make the car look somewhat decent

He made his money off Paypal when it was at the height of its shadiness. The advances in battery technology Tesla has driven are cool. Musk himself is not cool, he is crap.

Tesla's new innocuous-looking solar roof panels are nice and probably very efficient. And I like that Musk has more than entertained the Simulation Hypothesis and fears "summoning the demon" with A.I./superintelligence/the singularity. SpaceX will probably get us to Mars before NASA, especially since the latter is now headed by a guy who doesn't even believe in climate change (wtf!). Musk was wise to cut ties with Facebook. People say nice things about his cars. So, all in all, I guess Musk isn't a total fool.

But any and all talk of a progressive agenda from him is just lip service in light of Musk cutting a big check to Republican fat cats, who want nothing of the sort will act accordingly.

And then of course there's the way Musk treats the workers at his factories.

He's also a below-average public speaker without much natural charisma.

In short: Elon Musk wants big business to continue as it is, more or less, with fewer economic and environmental regulations impeding growth, but all with a nouveau riche tech industry insider kind of futurism leading the way.

This is something I would like you to understand---> We are not building toward a techno-utopia. Tech industry futurists are not your friends by and large. If they were they wouldn't be enabling the surveillance state, for one.

In more than a couple of ways, I envision a dark future for much of the world. Eroding liberties and a dying ecosystem and all that. Most people are in denial about it.

It's starting to seem like we're going to find out how well his own crumple zones perform.

It seems the Internet wants this guy to be Tony Stark. While some of his ideas are cool, quite a few others sound far-fetched and the longer time goes on the more they seem like premature PR stunts.

The story of him ignoring investor questions in favour of fanboys during a public Q&A while his company struggles to stay profitable did not leave a good impression.

I suspect he's fallen into the trap of listening to his fanbase and with that pedo tweet it seems like he let his Internet personality bleed into real life. Dummy.
