I like it. To read a description of it and see who's involved seems like I wouldn't, but I do somehow. I'll probably watch half of the 3rd season tonight.

The twist at the end of the first season is executed phenomenally

At this particular time in the US, a publicly broadcast television show that explicitly discusses classical ethics (even if in a cursory or utilitarian manner) is rain in the fucking Kalahari.

All the food-related Easter eggs and darkly cynical signage are toppings on its No Exit froyo.

Wow, surprised to see all the positive reactions. I feel less guilty about finding it pleasurable now.

I'm more of an epistemology guy, but it seemed like they mostly got it right, too. Knowing a tiny bit about moral philosophy (like, as much as the show does) made it way funnier than it would have been otherwise, I thought.

I often find the concept of a guilty pleasure hard to understand, but I do somewhat get the need for it. That said, do academics find this show to be one of those things - a guilty pleasure? It's a funny, imaginative, and intelligent sitcom on a major television network that is supposed to draw in as many viewers as possible, so while I get that it won't seriously delve into complicated philosophical studies is that enough of a reason to be wary of enjoying it? It's not like it is Friends, you know?

No idea what academics think; I just didn't expect the PRF seal of approval. Personally, almost all of my pleasures are guilt-free, but a network TV sitcom like this might be a potential exception, esp. since I was pretty stoned while watching it. Fuck it, though, it's funny and clever and even touching.

Definitely one of the best things on TV right now. Rewatching Season 3 right now, and it's great on repeat viewings.

I saw the pilot of this and really liked it, but haven't had time or energy for a show. Nice to see it appears decent.

also also:
diverse cast with only 1 white man out of 6 main characters and representation that refuses to participate in American racial stereotypes.

Everything about it is kind of refreshing.

One of the best tv shows of the last 20 years.

I didn't realise that Ted Danson can actually act until I saw this.

The first season was so good and unexpected. Since then it became schmaltz. Kudos for the diversity and representation, as Antero said.

I must agree, because I laughed a lot at first but found myself losing interest after awhile.

It's good "for network TV" but imagine what they could get away with if it were produced by Netflix, which is probably where most of us are watching it anyway.

Season 1 was pretty great. S2, less so but I still liked it. I hated the first episode of S3 but I'm going to hang in there and watch more.

Its expression of queerness definitely so. Just be fucking queer with no politicism behind it: woman on woman, man on mainframe, just show love because it's love.

I was so excited when it dropped a small bit about moral particularism--which is my jam as far as metaethics/moral philosophy goes--that's something I would've never expected to hear referenced on a network television show.
