They have some experience playing in arenas. I know they played multiple arena shows opening for Radiohead (who are huge Deerhoof fans) a few years ago.

Just played Brazil, I was lucky to see two of the three shows, and stage manage one of those. It was awesome. I also now have a near complete Deerhoof full length collection.

What size crowd do Deerhoof draw in Brazil?

Hard to say, they'd never been here before. The São Paulo show, which was the only one that was not as a part of a festival line up (but still had another band playing) had sold 600 tickets last time I asked, which was a couple hours before show time. The festivals were packed, but there were a lot of artists playing on each, some reasonably established here (and mostly brazilian acts).

Saunier is in this record, he posted it on his FB page, and I'm glad I decided to check it out:

Saw them play last week and I'm still buzzing from it.

I have, I think, seven of their albums. I genuinely LOVE about 5 of those (the first two are a little nutty for me at times--they don't hold together right away--but after that THE KINGS), and I recognized like 5 songs in their set last week.

It was a top five show for me. Easily.

They play like they have one brain. They're funny, engaged, WAY THE FUCK into their weird trip.

The best actual band I've seen since Fugazi.

All-timers.

This is a long time coming, but Greg Saunier was just on Protonic Reversal.
He's an old friend from way back, and it was a very nice talk!

Does it list the first 3 albums as "The Man, The King, The Girl," "Holdypaws," and "Halfbird"?

Deerhoof's actual first album is "Dirt Pirate Creed" but for some reason (at least in the past) they have disowned that album - not acknowledged it.

It's a fine record btw. The LP packaging is very Caroliner-esque.

I haven’t listened to dirt pirate creed in forever! At one point I added it to the Wikipedia page and it was promptly erased. Looks like it’s back now. I’m psyched those other three records will by on LP finally.

I found an explanation, from Greg, in an online interview. Hadn't seen this before.

Q: I understand there is an LP from before The Man, The King, The Girl? What's it called, who released it, and will it ever be available again either on CD or the internet?

A: It's called Dirt Pirate Creed, and it is available. Only one distributor, Subterranean, has it. Some of the material was reused on The Man, The King, The Girl. Unfortunately, the LP is pressed extremely poorly, so although I feel good about the music, I feel torn about selling the LP to people.

I remember it being an extremely quiet pressing.

Saw them again this summer and once again was I grinning the whole time like an idiot. <3 Deerhoof. Ed Rodrigouez still looks like a younger, major key version of Tom Araya and it is till awesome.
