The fact that his character's name is "McBain" is also pure gold. Says a lot about both this movie and the writers of The Simpsons.

I remember once saying that Gary Busey is the poor man's Nick Nolte.

My friend replied, "Gary Busey is the poor man's Gary Busey."

For some reason this struck me as profoundly witty at the time.

Nick Nolte ain't shit. Sure he kicks ass in 48 Hours, but Gary Busey is a lanky tall walrus looking piece of shit who is bananas like very few people are bananas, a true force of nature, and a unique and hilarious form of entertainment. Including I'm With Busey. I love that nutcake.

Saying Busey is a poor man's Nick Nolte is like saying a penis reconstruction surgery video is a poor man's Beverly Hills 90210.

I couldn't stop watching the beginning of the Bulletproof clip, when Busey is discovered on the rafters above the crooks. The "Yeah!" he shouts back at them when they scream "McBain!" is completely hellish and priceless in a way only he could accomplish.

I love that edge he adds to his performances, they make me laugh.

Anyone heard his band? I read he played drums or something.

I watched this film so many times as a kid, must have been on HBO or Showtime. Even had a serious crush on Irene Cara as a result.

I need to revisit this movie...from what I remember, it's really underrated.

But I was reminded of it recently, because the manager of my pedicab fleet put up a DC Cab poster in the garage.

Great actor, he was on Howard Stern a few times, came off as a really scary, dangerous lunatic, into a lot of 'Christian' bullshit iirc. Buddy Holly, yeah, also great in Surviving the Game with Ice-T, F. Murray Abraham, Charles Dutton, Robert McNamara, John McGinley, et al, one of my favorite flicks.

He's good in Buddy Holly and Big Wednesday, too.

If you swapped Doc Hawkins in the film Surviving The Game out for your choices, you would have taken the words right out of my mouth.

His son Jake Busey was in a TV show called Shasta McNasty.

With a title as catchy as that, it's hard to believe it only last one season.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shasta_McNasty

Shasta McNasty focused on three friends — Scott, Dennis and Randy — who are part of the rap rock band Shasta McNasty. After signing to Da Funk Records, the three friends relocate from Chicago to LA where they find out that the label has gone bust. Keeping their advance money that they'd been given, they rent an apartment in Venice Beach where they share a kitchen with their next door neighbor Diana. The first half of the series focused on the band, their landlord, odd jobbing to make rent and generally getting up to mischief, while the second half of the season focused on them working at the local bar for their friend Vern, hoping to get signed by a label again and the developing relationship between Scott and Diana.

The series' concluding episode is set ten years later, and is presented as an episode of "Behind The Band 2010" (a parody of Behind The Music). It is revealed that Shasta McNasty did become a famous, highly successful band; nevertheless, ego, addiction, in-fighting, and creative differences took their toll.

His surprise showing in an Impractical Jokers bit is probably my favourite thing he's ever done, and he gets an NC for that alone.
