I thought this thread was gonna be about the porn shop in Madison on East Washington.

Ah, Red Letter News. Still never been in even though I've been driving past it over 25 years! Hahaha.

Have finally started watching a few of these recently, it bothers me that the discussion is always so much about the overt mechanics of the films' plots, which is more often than not such an uninteresting aspect of cinema.

I feel you! I like their stuff, but Mike, especially, is very committed to narrative structure, often fairly conventional structure. And he seems like the dominant voice in the room. Other dudes on the program are more tolerant of experimental or variant styles. Jay seems to like some experimental stuff. Still, the narrative critiques have been really good for what they are.

That said, the in-depth stuff (like the newer star wars and star trek stuff) hasn't been as sharp as it always was of late. Still entertaining, but there's more hand waving. It's fine. That can be a tedious bike to keep riding after, what 10 years?

There's also that, I won't really bother spending a couple hours with anything Star Wars made after the 80's, so I REALLY won't spend 90 minutes on a review of it, it would have to be off-the-charts hilarious, I don't really give a shit about most of the films they cover.

I have been checking their archives every time I'm done watching something now, though.
