Plenty of noise and bluster, a few nice sequences, not much of a film.

We watched it last night, I feel like my heart is still racing. I'd listened to a few interviews with the Safdie brothers and I'm glad I did--there are some really interesting details as far as the casting/filming process that I felt added a lot to the film once I finally watched it.

Other than that, not sure I have much more to add on top of what others have said better than I can. Not crap, will watch again. It made me want to revisit Good Time as well, I feel like they both would really benefit from repeated viewings.

For anyone looking to explore more- Daddy Longlegs, The Pleasure of Being Robbed, and several early short films are available on the Criterion streaming service. I marathon watched everything the other day. Also Frownland from co-writer Ronald Bronstein

Undoubtedly very well made, but it didn't connect with me at all. I think I have run out of time for films where the only communication depicted is influential older men shouting at each other (see also Death of Stalin). It was fascinating to see some of the world that was shown, but I would rather have seen a good documentary on it to be honest.

It seemed to me that, for Sandlers character, the film essentially has a happy ending - to all intents and purposes, he gets away with it, which was a strange feeling to come away with.

I kind of wish they had gone further with the magic realism elements re: the opal.
Don't shun it. Fun it.

I watched this again the other night, as my brother fancied it. Second viewing really showed it up, and I wasn't sold on it to begin with. A big empty vessel of a movie.

it was painful, confusing and bleak... what more do you want these days?

a view into the mind of someone not in control of his own actions... a fucking terrifying place to be.
