Simic is at UNH, but he read at UMASS while I was there. My teachers included James Tate, Carolyn Forche, and Dara Wier. John Edgar Wideman taught at UMASS then, but I never took a class with him. Shot ball with him though. His knees were all tore up, but he still had a sweet hook shot.

Hell, Incorporated; Leni Lenape and Mohegan offices. No degree -- never made it past Entered Apprentice.

(I went to "Hartford Art School", or "The Sinking 'H'" as we liked to call it -- fuckin' graphic designers. Last stop on the "Jersey 500" speedway that was the main road around the University of Hartford campus at the time -- I think it's a dead-end now.)

I attended Southern Illinois University (1999-2003) @ Carbondale, IL and majored in Electrical Engineering Technology.

I now work as an Engineer at Underwriters Labatories (more popular seen as the mark "UL" on various electronics products) in their alternative energy division.

but the rock is where my heart is...

Hey Turnbullac and Dregs, I am considering both of your respective concentrations at Columbia. Are there any specific experiences, advice, recommendations, warnings you could offer? There are a few old threads here regarding this topic, but there aren't many personal experiences shared other than it's a popular school.

I go to the university of utah. Physics and math major (to get masters in physics later)

I work in the cosmic ray research group. I should be troubleshooting an ultrasound anemometer which is stupid or building an electronic barometer and a digital interface for it, but instead I joined some forums, probably because I only make like 7 an hour.

I just recently dug out my old cassettes from back in the day, and found this song. It was my final project for the science class I took, "Einstein : His theory and his humanity" or something like that. In typical Columbia fashion, the assignment was to do something in your field (mine was Sound Engineering) that related to the class, and was factual and accurate in content. So I wrote a song called Einstein, that was about Einstein. We had to present our projects to the class. Sitting in a classroom and listening to this song was pretty funny.

Here are the words!

Einstein

He couldn't read when he was 9
Went to school and he flunked out
Then he won the Nobel prize

He wore the same clothes, he never wore socks
He didn't worship Satan but we love him anyway

Had a bastard son and a couple of kids
Divorced his wife, Maleeva, and he married his cousin

Einstein, Einstein!
E = mc squared
Einstein had crazy hair!
E = mc squared
Einstein had crazy hair!

Refused surgery. Einstein died in 1955.

(screaming and sheep noises)

Einstein we love you!
Einstein!
Einstein!
Einstein!
Einstein!
Einstein we love you!

I don't know how easy it is to pick it out, but you can barely hear the guy who sang (my then-roommate, a non-musician) laughing the second time he says "E = mc squared" cause he was overcome by how absurd the song was.

I got an A.

I miss college.

This is kind of funny. I was sort of planning on attending IPR in the Twin Cities after I graduate, but I was having second thoughts, on possibly finding some other place that would accept me in Minneapolis. You don't need good grades to go to IPR, right?

From what I've seen, you only need money and complicated facial hair.

Check into Hennepin Tech. The Eden Prairie campus has a good program and studios. If you're into that sort of thing.
