I know this tune. I laugh whenever I see a picture of these guys.

Devin Townsend is a madman, but a damn good songwriter, IMHO.

Charles Mingus' "Black Saint & The Sinner Lady."

one of the best studies in schizophrenia and heartbreak.

Um...

hmm.

Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs
Swans - Cop/Young God
Black Flag - My War (in that it only sounds good when you're really depressed)
Rollins Band - "Turned Inside Out"
The Birthday Party - Junkyard
The Pop Group - Y

more to come.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

'All the Madmen' by David Bowie should be added to the list, I think. And a huge host of homebrew 'noise' stuff...maybe G.X. Jupiter's 'Mr. California' for starters.

Man, I was just going to mention those exact bands as a textbook example of being too sane.

FYP?

Whitehouse and SJ are so unsane it is somewhat frightening.

Also, Masonna can easily be added to that list, as well as most of Gerogerigegege's work.[/b]

Nah. Gerogerigegege is pretty nutty, Masonna is performance art, but my take is that Whitehouse and Sutcliffe Jugend get their power from simply being too honest and close to the source. It's cold steel sanity in a world of bewildering self-deception and psychological cowardice that seems like madness. My view, anyway. Disturbing, yes. But sane.

Not that it's totally incomprehensible, but 'insane' is always an adjective I throw around when describing this record.

There's an album by a band called 9353 that every time i hear it convinces me i am going insane. That and pretty much anything by No Trend.

Of course, when i ACTUALLY go insane I'm probably going to be listening to crap like Alice In Chains and whatnot...

ooh yeah almost any Sebadoh up to / including Bakesale.

also: any good Hank Williams singles comp for that 'tear in your beer' effect.

The Replacements: Unsatisfied.

Also the Dragons' "Rock Like Fuck" and any New Bomb Turks for the 'i'm bouncing off the walls so i dont break shit' mode.
