I went on a tare recently and got some good stuff:

Strange Boys - "Live Music"
Celebration - Hello Paradise/Electric Tarot
Moon Duo - Circles
The Soft Machine - Volume Two
Hawkwind - Hawkwind
King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon
Funkadelic - Standing On the Verge of Getting It On
Yeasayer - Fragrant World
Bear In Heaven - I Love You, It's Cool

The Strange Boys album is great. They've really grown, or at least grown out of the low-fi sound. I saw them live in Toronto a few years ago and they blew me away live, but the records never really captured that sound well, probably because of the low production. But this new record is great with some pretty piano work on top of it. It's not an album I thought I'd fall in love with, but it happened. If you're still not convinced to give it a listen, Pitchfork hated it.

Bear In Heaven and Wild Nothing both released their 2nd albums in 2012. These follow ups are even better, if you like this kind of pop music. I think a lot of people here would be turned off by Bear In Heaven, but Wild Nothing I think is more relatable.

Yeasayer is an eclectic taste, but if you do like them, know their third album is a master piece.
I play bass in Fake Limbs.

Nice.

They're both great. And I didn't actually buy 'em--both were gifts from the same awesome person.
