I've been to a Tilted Kilt once, it was fine. Exactly what I would expect from a bar in Elgin or wherever it was.

I think there are at least a couple "Irish" places here in Brookfield. The one named Irish Times, I'm pretty sure is Irish. Went there once with my parents when they came out here to check a place out back when we were house shopping. Same as what's been covered here already-- during the day it was totally laid back and fine, but according to online reviews the waitstaff ignores people when it gets super crowded on Superbowl Sunday or whatever. I'm sure I'll end up there again at some point.

Just went back to Ryan's Public House this week, me and the neighbor. I had been there once before cause it was the only bar open that I could walk to at like 11 at night and get some food (kitchen half open, appetizers only or whatever) the first week I was staying at my house and didn't even have a car here to drive yet. Finally made it back there this week. I liked it just fine. It was pretty empty, and everybody was friendly and talking to each other and stuff. Sports on the teevee, it was Monday Night Football and all. I got the shepherd's pie and I have no idea if it was authentic or proper but it was damn tasty.

The suburbs are littered with "Irish" bars, like multiple Tilted Kilt locations for example. Mostly they're about the same-- they have Guiness and uh, yeah, I dunno, Irish? I'm pretty sure it's generally just code for "get hammered here", that whole Irish thing. Oh and it probably means "white people" too, right?

I might enjoy this thread almost as much as I do the Sowley thread.

Oh, the international fascination of a sports bar. Right up there with gazing upon the dome of St. Peter's Basilica, a haj, hiking in Chamonix and sharting beaujolais in Montrachet.

Grand! Tour!

I couldn't get a picture of it last time, as I was driving, but someone had tagged "VOCK" down one of the windows the other day. I shit you not.

If it's still there next time I go by, I'll pull over, seguro.

Maybe, instead of the traditional American quartet of baseball, football, basketball, and hockey, they'll show soccer, cricket, rugby, sumo wrestling, bull fighting, jai alai...

The article explicitly said they're focusing on soccer and rugby. So, guaranteed to be popular, what with those being HUGE sports in Chicago.

Y'know as long as the upscale concept offers a product unrivaled in the area, fits the neighborhood, and nails the food -- food and service -- right out of the gate, I'm in.

Great to hear a restauranteur speak so passionately about his dream.

That's a really old update. I was recently at Aldi, across the street and that place had no power and looked like no one had been near it in forever.

I wonder what became of the huge aquarium centerpiece behind the bar. They could barely pour a beer--someone was expected to care for tropical fish?

Seriously. It was even below one of the faded awnings where you can still see the Paddy O'Splaine's logo. I really hope it's not cleaned up yet.
