There was only one Mount, and it was Mount Vicious

Postby cneutron on Sun Aug 31, 2008 7:22 pm

So, some of you know me from playing in Replicator with PRF superstar and consummate gearhead, Prof. benadrian.

Most of you probably don't know me.

I have a tendency to check in here and post a bunch every few months or so. I'm basically an incredibly lazy PRFer, and with my new job, I'm pretty busy.

Anyway, Chris and I from Replicator have a new band.
It is called Mount Vicious.
Image

That's us on the set of the remake of Deerhunter. Obviously Mr. Necklace is less than enthused about the budgetary cutbacks.

You might recognize some of the people in it if you are into the rocks and rolls in the bay area.

It's a little different from Replicator, less abjectly noiserock, more... uh... well I don't know... to me it sounds like big pop/rock stuff, but we've gotten everything from Wire, the Misfits, fugazi, Sonic Youth, Wipers, Queens of the Stone Age, etc.

A talented local author of some renown wrote this:
Conan Neutron and Chris from Replicator have an amazing new band out called Mount Vicious. Shit's sick. Like the Minutemen meets early Sonic Youth meets State of Alert.

I actually had to look up who State of Alert was... and I call myself a music obsessive... PFFT!

Also I think he was talking about the EVOL/Sister/Daydream era not Confusion is Sex. :)

Other quotes include:
...Queens of the Stone Age or if Nirvana had John Reis on guitar

and
...Minutemen trying to play Misfits covers with David Yow on vocals

all of which are very flattering, now matter how confused I may be.

We have songs about the last Unicorn not being allowed on the ark because he was too massive from 'roiding out... so he concocts a revenge fantasy scheme on Noah.

We have a song about werewolves that involves location called Wherewolf?

we have a lot more as well... 3 of them are up to listen to right now.
we recorded it very recently, which as you all know is hungry work:
Image

We're brand new, we literally just revealed ourselves to the world on monday... first show is in October, first Pac NW tour is in November... other stuff soon after that.

I'm going to be a dope and put out little bio thing here, because it cracks me up:
It all began with Conan Neutron, Richard Necklace, and a musical theory:
musicians don't need to wallow in willful obscurity to write and perform
interesting songs; catchiness does not preclude novelty and innovation does
not preclude blandness.

With these thoughts in mind, Messrs. Neutron and Necklace decided to start a
band that preserved the intensity and truth of their previous trio while
evoking appreciation among music lovers as well as musicians and
theoreticians.

In order to achieve this, a team had to be assembled -- a dream team, if you
will: a team that could withstand and match the intense performance,
personality, and perspiration of Mr. Neutron; a team unafraid to play at
volumes audible above the violently rhythmic acrobatics of Mr. Necklace; a
team in which attitude, personality, and sense of purpose were held in equal
regard to technical prowess

One man soon came to mind to add to the core: "Daddy" Dré Burgerwolf. His
like-mindedness, arrangement skills, and flair for guitar bombast portended
great promise for his value as a partner in crime… or perhaps it was just
his nut-sack showing through his Lucite guitar that rendered him so
desirable. Whatever the case, "Daddy" was quickly seduced to the fold.

Shortly thereafter, a chance meeting followed by some directed ranting made
it clear, with nary a note being played, that the inimitable Brian James,
bass superstar, would be charged with manhandling the bottom end. Instinct,
in this matter, was ultimately vindicated: the only thing cooler than Mr.
James' bass playing was his hair.

The final formative chord of universal benevolence was struck when
providence saw fit to offer forth Alli Mayhem -- shining star of
preposterous guitar talent, maven of subterranean six-string cosmology, and
inspiration to a black-clad legion unknowable proportion -- to this nascent
band of merry music dorks.

The lineup thus solidified, our intrepid heroes endured the crucible of a
nameless summer before ultimately and definitively divining the name of the
rock beast they had become…

Mount Vicious

And lo, there shall be a reckoning.

Anyway, there you go PRF, I seem to recall thinking that it was bad form to put up something like this as it's own thread here, but to be honest I couldn't really find a more appropriate place, and i'm not the kind of dude with a million and a half "projects" or whatever... so I hope you will excuse the hubris.

Here are the relevant details:
Mount Vicious
Mount Vicious Myspace

You can download mp3s if you like...

We hope to play for and/or with you soon.

thanks gang!

I've already listened to these tunes, you guys really should check them out.

Conan, I wouldn't worry about having started a new thread; it's not like you're a random noob or spamming street-teamer, even though you're not a regular. JUST DON'T MAKE IT A HABIT

Yeah, or someone might think you're in Police Teeth or If I Had A Hi-Fi.

Really like the Mt. Vicious stuff Conan! Stoked for the show(s) in November.

I crave your validation like a junkie craves junk. :)

seriously, it does mean a lot to me, I respect both of you dudes opinions a lot.

We are all very excited about this band.
(not that that is a barometer for goodness, but still...)

TallChris:
stoked as all get out!
especially since the 3rd to last Replicator Cyclecide show with the Aminos ended up being Police Teeth-less.

That made me make this face:

Postby cneutron on Fri Sep 26, 2008 1:45 pm

I'm sure it's been adequately covered in other places for those that are interested, but we remixed the songs... there's another one up as well...

ok, bye!

wwweeeeeelll... as it turns out we aren't actually playing!

We'll still be there representing at the table, selling cds and shooting the breeze, but we aren't going to be playing.

Ironically we won't have stickers and buttons to give out either like we thought we were, but such is life.

It's a little absurd, but hey... the expo is a rad event and it's freaking FREE, so you should come by and check it out and say hello, we'll be there all day.

For the record we remixed the songs and did a quickie onepass master on them too.

It's certainly not audiophile quality or anything, but it's a decent piece better off than it was before.

and now... a flyer:

Live videos from 924 Gilman.

Postby cneutron on Mon Feb 23, 2009 1:39 pm

See I'm starting to get it!
rather than make a new thread, i'm going to post it here, we have some video of our show last month at 924 Gilman, check it out if you see so inclined.

I don't have the slightest clue how to embed the youtubes on here, and do not have the time to check, so links will have to do:

Astoundingly this post is NOT about In-n-out Burger, which has caused me to post more than anything on PRF since that Birthday Party discussion a ways back.

--

Hi everybody,
We recorded an ep.
That is to say, we recorded some of our songs we would like you to hear.

Now we recorded this, really, just so you could hear them.
We threw down 5 of our toughest, most awesome songs (and Pain Baby) for you to hear.
This includes new versions of Steroid Unicorn and Wherewolf?

Ben "Mutt" Adrian (or benadrian as he is known here) did a great job getting what Mount Vicious does down.

Here's the thing, if you WANT to give us money for it, we won't turn it down.
For some reason, it's been my experience in the "rock world" (mine being Conan Neutron's), that if you aren't Radiohead, or another band with an equally fantastic base of rabid fans, that trying to get people to pay for a download is a fools errand as a business model, but I'm eager to be proven wrong.

Times are rough economically, but if you can afford to BUY these songs, we'd surely appreciate it.
As it's no easier for us in Mount Vicious and if nothing else it will help offset the cost.

you can download perfectly acceptable 128K mp3s, *OR* for a dollar a track, you can have beautiful 320K MP3s, AACs, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis... whatever you like!

Image
Please go to the bandcamp link here:
http://mountvicious.bandcamp.com/

1. Martyr Party
2. Steroid Unicorn
3. Make Room For Daddy
4. Skin Flautist
5. Wherewolf?
6. Pain Baby (our ridiculous ep bonus track)

These songs will all be on our full length, but not these versions.
There are going to be a limited edition of about 50 copies of these, so if having a physical cd is a big thing for you, we will be selling these at our next two upcoming bay area shows, as well as the area shows with Police Teeth in May.

When they are gone, they are gone.
No more will be made.
I'd love to do the PT thing of giving them away to whoever on here wants 'em... but to be honest, it ain't gonna happen.

I will promise to do that with our full length out in June though!

Mount Vicious is:
Conan Neutron - Vocals/Guitar
Daddy Dré Burgerwolf - Guitar/Vocals
Alli Mayhem - Guitar
Brian Jet James - Bass
Richard Necklace - Drums

Recorded and mastered by Ben "Bunny" Adrian
at the House of Collision

thanks!

horsewhip, tallchris, coach, benadrian and a few others can vouch for our non-suckitude as well.

Thanks Frank! That's mighty decent of you.

Yale: July tour will DESTROY, I think that will be one of my favorite legs of it for sure.

J. Burns, just make sure you jam out to that one alone. :)
(Fun fact: All 3 guitar players play leads on that song... I guess mine is technically a "solo", since you know... that's wanky and all. Love how that turned out though, and it's still one of my faves live.)

Don't Be A Baby, Come and Get It CD GIVEAWAY!

Postby cneutron on Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:26 pm

ok!
We're on tour in like... 4 days and playing with a LOT of PRF bands.
We are so very, very excited.
You've probably seen a lot about our tour, whether you like it or not.

and we just got our cds in:
Image
(for the record that is a donut they are fighting over)

(rest of the pictures, except for the actual cd here

Here's what I wrote about it when I wasn't so frazzled about pre-tour prep:
Long time no talk.
Just a quick update from us at Mount Vicious HQ. We recorded a 10 song full length DEBUT album at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco where many, many fine records have been made by some mighty fine artists.

It's called: "Don't Be a Baby, Come And Get It", and it comes out this summer, presale available June 30th, "official release" August 29th.

Here is the track listing:
1. Da Proposition
2. Princess of the Brodeo
3. Skin Flautist
4. Steroid Unicorn
5. What's My Emotivation?
6. Martyr Party
7. Wherewolf?
8. Make Room For Daddy
9. We Enjoy Fucking (To This Music)
10. The Long Walk

You may have heard some of these songs before, but I guarantee you, you have NOT heard them like this.

It was masterfully produced by John "Crunch all you want mate, they'll bloody well make more" Congleton (Modest Mouse, Explosions in the Sky, R. Kelly, Mountain Goats and about a million others) and sounds pretty damn badass. (if I do say so myself!)

But don't take our word for out, check out the two songs we've posted PRINCESS OF THE BRODEO, and THE LONG WALK.

Bob Weston of Shellac fame has mastered it, who has worked on many fine records himself.

Yadda, yadda, yadda.
And yeah, I've been lucky enough to not have to do a "self release" (or, whatever... close enough) in a long time and as anybody that has ever done it, and ESPECIALLY done it on a schedule knows... it's a HUGE pain in the ass.

So in a blatant lift from Police Teeth (who I think lifted it from somebody else), we are going to do a cd give away for Electrical Audio.

We're RIYL: Queens of the Stone Age, Wipers, Birthday Party, Misfits (you know the good stuff), Hot Snakes, Eagles of Death Metal, Afghan Whigs, fugazi (but really isn't that a useless descriptor? nobody ever REALLY sounds like fugazi), Sister/Daydream Nation era Sonic Youth, Alice Cooper, etc.

It's modern "classic" rock with noiserock and post-punk influence.

first 30 people to contact me in this forum, by private message (if you are shy!) or reply to this subject gets a free cd. I don't care if you live in Chicago, New York, Arkansas or Belgium, i'll ship it to you. BECAUSE I AM CRAAAAAAAZY CONAN NEUTRON, AND I'M GIVING THESE AWAAAAAAY.

*ahem*

(Although, if for some reason we get some requests AFTER we leave, it'll be delayed some... and if it's going overseas, i'm sending as cheap as possible)

The one rule?
If you like it, you have to tell a friend who might like it.
Ideally you'll be able to buy it by the 30th if you want to go that route, but let's just consider this an act of respect for such a great forum that has been a huge help to our band.

so yeah, here we go.

28 of these left. C'mon, I know it's friday and all, but my goal is really to have these all in the mail by Wednesday if possible.

I know, I know, I lack patience, I make up for it by my sparkling wit and skills of sex.

first 2 go out tomorrow/today.
