sorry, man -- at least you got to hang out with chuck & friends, right? (and more importantly, now you know for sure that you live within 20 miles of one of the best hidden gems in the country). any cool weirdo projects this year?

haha, i think i played that very machine! (been a long time since ive been in portland, but i remember playing Kingpin there.)

I was there again in September and that machine is still there. Of course this isn't something you'd get rid of unless you needed the cash.

hoo boy - spending a week in seattle as part of my job. evenings have been spent geeking out on the joys of pinball and craft IPAs...

highlights thus far:

shorty's - spent major time with monster bash and medieval madness. heading back later this week to rock some more time with each, plus bally/wms indiana jones and addams family.

tin hat - queen on the hi-fi, buncha nonsense covering the walls and ceiling, attack from mars. unfortunately, the pop bumpers in the back were sorta weak, and the multiball was only spitting out a single ball. dang.

benbow room - grunge on the hi-fi, pirate getup on the walls and ceiling. attack from mars, take two. the pop bumpers were stellar, but the right flipper was weak and sticky. also, that's a fucked up bridge that i had to take to get over here, so i'm docking this one by a half point.

bandits - total cornball bar, in the ground floor of a condo building. no dice, right? wrong, fella. ween on the jukebox and a fucking mint condition cactus canyon. dude. i've never gotten to rock this game in my life, and i'm kinda bummed that i finally did -- it's so, so smooth. the ramps and loops click just as well as afm or mm. low scoring, thoughtful setups, really at the top of the wms/bally late 90s lineup. damn.

i've got two more nights here, so if anybody has any suggestions, i'm all ears.

also, gonna be in vegas in two weeks, so fill me in out that jazz too.

seriously.

oddly enough - even though i'm a seattle boy - i've been to the one in las vegas but not the one here.

We had Medieval Madness in the college bar at my university. I remember some very very stoned nights wtching my Californian friend Bligh wrenching the thing halfway across the floor and not setting off the tilt thingy. TROLLS!

yeah - i may go down to the seattle pinball museum tomorrow night. supposedly they just got their beer permits in order yesterday. i want to support them, but at the same time, their focus is on e/m machines, and i'm almost exclusively a solidstate '88-'98 bally/wms sort of dude. they do have monster bash and johnny mnemonic on site right now... we'll see... how sketchy is that neighborhood for an amblin' dude that is used to walking around downtown l.a., all over chicago, etc?

as for arnold's spot in vegas - again, very e/m-centric, but the sheer volume means that my interest will be held. going to be there with non-pinball-spazz wife and friends, so i may have to postpone the trip til i'm flying solo...

pretty much on par with the neighborhood shorty's is in. i have no problem heading down there for midnight chinese food.

this place is dangerous. it made me sympathize with gambling addicts. i too am into the 90s machines, and they had everything i could think of... addams family, twilight zone, star trek the next generation, funhouse, fish tales... it is a place of evil. do not go. on the flipside, most casinos have game rooms to entertain the kids while the folks are out losing their shirts, so there should be pinball machines all over the place.

I went to see ALL at The Bottom Lounge in Chicago last week. They have Bobby Orr Power Play. Didn't have enough time to play.

no shit? wild!

i'm not usually a fan of mods - with the exception of leds instead of bulbs - but this is pretty sharp...

also, heading back to seattle next week. anybody have any leads on an attack from mars that isn't totally limp?

ooof, i dunno about that x-men nonsense... but i'm hella biased against superhero-type licenses. how's the gameplay?

in the 'giving credit where credit is due' department, i actually really like the stern ac/dc pin. flippers feel good, there's not too much horribly chintzy plastic bullshit strewn all over the playfield, and there's a fairly nice sense of flow.

also, seattle was aces as always... shorty's is still fine - had heard some sasstalk that their maintenance had dipped, but i didn't notice that to be the case. there's also a new spot - narwhal - with roughly a dozen pins in its basement. went on about a three hour attack from mars jag, followed that with some medieval madness and addams family gold, then a little funhouse for kicks. did that like four nights in a row, then bounced back to shorty's for monster bash and ac/dc and (non stern) indiana jones. helluva flippers...

Played a couple of times on the Junkyard table at Cobra Lounge. Interesting. Not really anything to write home about.

funny synchronicity that this gets bumped the night before i fly up to seattle for four nights of hot shorty's/narwhal flipper action...

yeah, junkyard gets really boring really quickly - and that damn dangling ball in the middle is such a nuisance...
