Streaming Netflix - what's good lately?

Postby John W. on Wed Jun 08, 2011 12:26 pm

I've found that this site is a big help for streaming Netflix:

http://instantwatcher.com/

Anyway - this is a thread to talk about stuff you've enjoyed that is on streaming Netflix.

I watched the IMAX special on beavers last night. It was stupid cute.

They are streaming a lot of Criterion titles. I watched Bresson's Pickpocket, Carne's Children of Paradise, Clouzot's The Wages of Fear not too long ago.

Other titles recently watched

Howard Hawks' Scarface
Samuel Fuller's White Dog
Atom Egoyan's Chloe
Ulzana's Raid with Burt Lancaster
Jack The Giant Killer
They have a lot of the classic Universal horror movies available currently that I have been catching up on.

Has anyone else seen Paul McCartney Really Is Dead: The Last Testament of George Harrison?

Here's what I wrote about it somewhere else:
I knew it was going to be bad. It's a documentary, but not really. The claim is that the filmmakers received a package in 2005 that contained audio tapes from George Harrison, admitting that Paul died in the '60s. The premise alone is bad, but I wanted to watch just a little bit of it. As soon as I heard "George" on the tapes I started laughing. It's so obviously not him speaking into a cassette recorder, but rather some douchebag narrating the documentary. The whole idea of this movie was so ridiculous to me that I just had to watch the whole thing. It's like if you just pretend that it's a real documentary and that the things they're saying could actually be true, it's kind of entertaining. There were numerous moments when I just started laughing out loud at what I was hearing/seeing.

I highly recommend this stinking piece of shit if you have nothing else to do. A love or dislike of the Beatles has nothing to do with its entertainment value.

Also, the fake Beatles music is priceless.

Breathe it in: http://www.paulreallyisdead.com/ (I just watched the trailer and started laughing again.)

Marwencol is streaming now, and I heartily recommend it.

I've been watching Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns. Never thought watching a baseball documentary would make me so emotional.

Sons of Anarchy turned out to be pretty good.
Battlestar Galactica is on there too, if you didn't see it.
We're watching Lost for the first time right now. Ten episodes left.

My landlord (a really cool guy) watched this and believed Paul is dead hook line and sinker, I heard all about false Paul or Faul as I guess they called him in the film. I find this really funny.

This thread resembles my own instant queue. They're about to resemble each other even more.

There are a few Bill Hicks concerts up right now. I've heard them all over and over, but I've never seen much video. It's a little weird having grown up on just the audio--he's surprisingly animated.

Lots of good documentaries, plenty of worthless ones as well. "When We Left Earth" is fantastic.

Worth pointing out: just because something is on instant doesn't mean it'll stay there. Some titles come and go.
