putting aside my eternal hatred for the shoegaze moniker -

and that, dear friend, is all you should ever need. the rest is either pail imitation or a swirly, lalala fuzzechotrem borefest.

Most shoegazey bands have too many nice poppy moments to be considred consistenylu noisy, but: Loop, Ringo Deathstarr, Boris, early Mercury Rev in a way.. um... I always thought Band of Susans had a shoegaze vibe to them.

(Oh and Pink City too, totally. Apparently.)

Get everything HDU (High Dependency Unit) recorded. Very few non-epic moments.

Loop and Band of Susans are good suggestions. Spacemen 3 aren't noise rock but were one of the first shoegazey bands, I think, though I'd really only recommend The Perfect Prescription. And Dreamweapon if you want nothing but drone.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

Sonic Youth, and generations of imitators.

Also VU, and The Stooges.

The staff weren't giving me the things I needed to do my job effectively and give the kids their money's worth...it wasn't too hard considering the concert was only $5

Can you really call Swervedriver "shoegazey(sic)?" I would think that early TV on the Radio would fit the bill more. I, personally, don't know much of their music but my pal says that the song "Staring at the Sun" is a prime example of the genre. Than again, if I were to nominate a band I would say that Polvo could have been the beginning of that type of music, despite their "mathy-ness", no?

Two of the best by far. Also worth checking out Astrobrite:

First couple of Bleach EPs - Snag and Eclipse - were pretty good. Tailed off a bit after those two. Here's "Seeing".

The Hair & Skin Trading Company, good too, although heading into Krautier waters. Their Over Valence LP still works for me.

Also,a lot of Flying Saucer Attack's stuff might fit the bill too.
Look at that! A perfectly square bit of black dirt on the window!

Some of these are straying a little too close to the shoegazing and a little far from the noise.

MBV anyone?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dinosaur Jr.'s You're Living All Over Me. Obviously not their entire catalog, but they did tour along with MBV and Sonic Youth for that album for a good reason.

I am also a fan of Citrus by Asobi Seksu.

I guess you know the Jesus & Mary Chain, but they nailed this down harder than anybody else.

The Velvet Underground don't really seem to be gazing at their shoes, and Spacemen 3 aren't noisy, like someone already pointed out.
