Jon Solomon's 24-hour Holiday Radio Show

Postby BadComrade on Sat Dec 24, 2011 7:05 pm

Every year, Jon Solomon spends 24 hours on air playing all sorts of great / weird / fucked up stuff. He's even put out some compilations of holiday music (one of which has a fantastic Silkworm song on it).

You should listen if you're just sitting there in silence.

here's what he's played so far:

I heard, maybe, that he is going to play three new Joel RL Phelps Christmas songs?!

He played a Joel R.L. Phelps "2011 Christmas Story" (Like the Rick Rizzo one he played earlier tonight). I have no idea if there will be songs, or if there will be more stories or what.

I don't even -wanna- know how you heard such a rumor.

If you haven't noticed, every 20th track he plays is one of the 2011 Christmas stories.

Really enjoying this!
My mind, it's a terrible diskette.

He just broke the "every 20th" thing with the stories.

I think my hearing is better than yours, especially since you're not even listening.

Ah, so that was a song, then. I've had it on here and there. Last time I started listening, the stream kept dropping a lot, I got annoyed and shut it off. Right now I'm just watching him, with no audio at all. I'll try listening again for a 4th time or whatever, I guess. Maybe he'll be nice and send them to me.

*edit: Something was wrong with my internet connection, not the stream. Working fine now.

I *wish* I was that clever. Completely unintentional.

Yes, Joel recorded three songs for the show. I am as surprised as anyone. An actual Christmas miracle.

More new "Christmas Stories" later today ET.

I need to go not fall asleep now. Merry Christmas!

I'm going to go sleep for 3 1/2 hours, then continue listening to the show until I force myself to leave for my parents house some times in the early afternoon. I'm going to record the show when I'm gone, mainly so I can hear Joel song #2 & #3. I had to go and buy motor oil as your show was about to begin, and missed JRLP song #1. (sadface.gif)

Damn, I am so sad that I missed the bulk of this due to not checking the board.

If anybody has the capability to let us hear those JRLP songs I'd be incredibly grateful.

Seconded. I spent yesterday and will be spending today at relatives' houses away from internet radio.

(If someone could direct me to that Mice song, that'd also be swell.)

I only got the chance to hear about 90 minutes of the show, but it was splendid as always, especially that gorgeous JRLP acoustic number played Saturday night. Did anyone hear the other two songs Joel contributed?

The biggest problem with Christmas is not enough Half Man Half Biscuit and Albert Brooks. Happily, Jon understands this.

Thanks, Jon. It was nice seeing you a few months ago.

We'll always have the Kane County Chicago Toy Show.

As soon as I get close to home (Philly) I turn the radio dial to WPRB and I have to say Mr. Solomon has been a shining star for a long long time.

Since I've taken the half step up from "complete lurker" to "exceptionally sporadic poster" on this forum in the past year, I've been awed by the ridiculously talented people that have made this space their quite welcoming electronic home.

I share those compliments as a preamble to my request that you (yes, you!) record a "Christmas story" for the 2012 edition of the 24-Hour Holiday Radio Show on WPRB.

A reading of some fashion? An original song? A cover? A re-telling of a personal experience? Something else entirely? That's up to you.

I've posted more details here:
http://keepingscoreathome.com/?p=1762

Last year's stories are linked above.

The deadline is December 19, 2012.

Apologies for the self-promotion.

Happy Holidays!

Stellar work, Jon.

So two new Joel Phelps songs are coming up in the final hour of this extravaganza.
