This one?

It was requested of me to get the Mike Watt interview up asap, so here it is.

fuggin watt

Enjoy. I think he said he was conceived at Electrical, but I'm not sure.

Currently working on the Stephen Sowley Sit-in Spectacular. Thank you for your patience and God bless.

Thank you.

Thank you.

From Watt's tour diary (he was taking his customary pre-show nap in his van, but wakes up just in time to call the Barrage):

damn if I don't pop w/two minutes to go to call in to the "live from the barrage" show and do a spiel w/the man john there in queens part of new york city, he's a riot and asks me good things besides also being a bassman. I'm wondering how did I know how to pop just in time for that? crimony! I then konk again when the spiel is done.

Nice one.

I haven't listened to the interview yet but Neal told me he confirmed that "I saw Murph then I shit my pants story" that I'd heard from friends that had toured with him a while back.

John, you were great, but that random caller guy was annoying! He kept talking over you, wouldn't shut up, and what was he on for like almost 40 minutes? You need someone to screen your calls.

Btw the last few years have seen Watt do quite a bit of collaboration and touring with Japanese bands (he mentioned Lite in the interview) who don't speak English. He's gotten really interested in Japanese culture and has been trying to learn to speak Japanese. He used to do lessons online via Skype - maybe still does. Not sure why he downplayed that in the interview when asked about it.

Kurt Gottschalk who has a show on WFMU told me he was staying in a house with him and he was speaking an Asian language. He requested that I ask Watt about it. He downplayed it big time. "I'm a word collector."

his gf is Asian i think.. i think i saw her around when he played here, and he's always tagged by her in cheesy jap toy bear images on facebook.

being a true purist, i'm not listening to the interview until the whole episode gets upped :)

as a purist you should of course listen to the episodes on live-stream, before all the swearing and yelling at each other gets edited!

Nice interview - great dude. I spoke with him briefly after the Il Sogno Del Marinaio show at Schubas. Really humble - told him it was a great show (it was) - he was like "a few clams but not too bad". He repeated the same point about always learning that he makes on the podcast. Extremely generous with his time - truly inspirational.

the Scharpling episode ruled. now listening to the latest BS and i'm pretty sure you influenced Tom&Jon to do that Joe Walsh bit.

first hour of the show was great too, loved the cruise stories. and John, you did great in the opening solo minutes. don't worry, Scharpling leaves way more dead air and he's also got the reviled background music.
