Hello there

My record label is 15 years old on 9th June 2012 so I am having a bash in my home town of Nottingham.

The event is taking place in The Space at the Nottingham Contemporary on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th June.

You can enjoy...

Friday (doors 8pm)

GREY HAIRS
HOOKWORMS
SAN LORENZO
THAT FUCKING TANK (+ special guests)

Saturday (doors 2pm)

BILGE PUMP
BROKEN ARM
FISTS
GUNS OR KNIVES
HIRAMEKA REDUX
KOGUMAZA
PICORE
POLARIS
SAUNA YOUTH
SOE'ZA
THE UNIT AMA

There will be DJs into the wee hour and visuals will be provided by local obscure cinema renegades Kneel Before Zod. We are also organizing a record market, including our favourite DIY labels and the marvellous Nottingham institution, The Music Exchange.

Advance tickets are priced £12 for the whole event, £4.50 for Friday and £9.50 for Saturday.

You can buy tickets online from:

Gigantic - http://www.gigantic.com/gigantic/event_gce_35751a.html
Wegottickets - http://www.wegottickets.com/location/8837

They both add a 10% booking fee. You can also buy tickets in The Music Exchange and at Nottingham Contemporary reception, with no booking fee, and as a bonus your ticket gets you a 20% discount on any Gringo release in The Music Exchange!

If you are travelling in a group and want to buy tickets but avoid the booking fee, please message me and I will see what I can do!

The event is open to all ages and under 14s can enter for free when accompanied by an adult.

There is a Facebook event if you like that kind of thing.

Have a listen to a load of the bands at the Gringo bandcamp page.

If anyone is travelling and needs help finding a place to stay let me know (early!).

Cheers!
Matt

Spoiler for anyone wondering - that's pretty much the best line-up you're likely to get in the UK this decade.

This is absolutely killer.
Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is pureley coincidental. Void where prohibited. Some assembly required. Subject to change without notice. Times approximate. Simulated picture. Driver does not carry cash.

Like a lot of the Gringo team, the Ox are scuppered by geography at the moment.

If you want more Bilge though, 1/3 of the Pump is in your sunny country now drumming for Yann Tiersen...

Matt, it might be too early to say and I don't want to poke holes in the magic but, just to let a bit of crushing mundanity intrude, do you know which day Polaris might be playing? I'll likely have to arrange some long-range babysitting with my folks who are semi-nearby and will probably only be able to make one of Friday/Saturday.

Off the bat, Saturday would be my pick but I've loved Polaris for the longest time, to be able to see them again would be a shining highlight for me.

I appreciate this is all still slotting into place so I'll keep tabs on the unfolding info but I want to make concrete arrangements as soon as possible so I don't miss out.

In the mean time, good luck with all the hard work. Superlatives won't do this justice. Excelsior!

Also, wanted to say this: in an age where bands reform all the time and even the most obscure, niche underground band is having a documentary about them made from a Kickstarter campaign (not that there's anything wrong with that), the fact that The Unit Ama from Newcastle are reforming to play this event is just such a big deal to me and I am so excited and thrilled and surprised they're going to do it.
A lot of people (even in the UK itself) presume the UK doesn't have great bands anymore. The only ones that make it across the pond are the ones with financial backing enough to pay their way and the distribution network for music here is really shitty now and the popularity of ATP has put a premium on American bands of a certain era. This is really great in some respects but it's had a noticeable effect on what was once a well supported network of underground promoters and bands forcing it more underground and making it more and more marginalised and of interest to less and less people.
The Unit Ama are an example, to me, of how the people involved just get better and better at music as interest in that music decreases for reasons above - not to mention that the time they have to make their music is taken up more and more by more pressing concerns like adult life. They were an inspiration to me and a lot of people I know because they were one of the first bands to really say "fuck it" and just present this band, their band, in a way that embraced this conflict of themselves as punk rock musicians as well as fathers, husbands, single men, 40 somethings, firemen, teachers and so on.
They really are one of the greatest bands I have ever seen and I'm thankful I got to see them play a lot and got to know them and count them as friends and if you're considering coming to this event even slightly I urge you to attend and see this band play again.

On another note, Yeah Yeah Noh reformed. Woohoo!

I do wish I could come to this, seems like it'd be a blast.

Looking forward to this... its so long since I've seen Soeza, the Unit Ama or Polaris (and Mrs G never has!). Also looking forward to catch up once more with some of my favourite 'current' bands (Kogumaza, Broken Arm, Hookworms, Picore) and seeing some things that are totally new to me (Grey Hairs, Sauna Youth etc). Plus general Nottingham-exploration, beer-enjoying and time off work. Can't wait!
