I don't go to shows very often (real life and finances are always in the way), so I almost feel like I shouldn't be posting here, but for me it would probably be Bob Mould and Fury Things at First Avenue a couple years back. I had never heard of Fury Things before, and by the end of their set they had gained a fan. Bob, of course, was Bob (i.e. fucking awesome).

+1 on Fugazi/Shellac/The Ex at Congress in 2001 (2 nights! Weren't tickets 5 bucks?)

Fugazi/Shellac/Blonde Redhead at Congress in 1998

Shellac and Nerves at that New Years Day show at the Fireside that started at 10am or noon. Todd played with a sleep mask on.

Touch and Go 25th Anniversary Saturday lineup with Big Black/Scratch Acid/Killdozer, etc, etc

Stinking Lizaveta/Test Site at Cactus Club 2004?

Bob Dylan/Merle Haggard and the Strangers Rave/Eagles Club 2005

The Blind Shake/The Mallard/Wereworm at Frank's Power Plant 2012

Holy Wave/Goat at Empty Bottle 2013

Patti Smith (no opener necessary) Milwaukee Theater 2017

While I admit this answer pushes the term "show" a bit far, seeing Rachel's record release show for The Sea and the Bells at a small theater where they opened for the film The City of Lost Children is way, way, way up there for me. October 14, 1996 at Baxter Avenue Theatre in Louisville.

Calexico / Dirty Three at City Lights/Mercury Paw in Louisville, circa 1998.
Dianogah / Shellac at the Clifton Center in Louisville circa 1999.
Dianogah / Don Cab circa summer 2000 at the Empty Bottle.
Silkworm / Shellac (*evening show), 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis, summer 2000.

* I've told this story before, but I was not yet on the Silkworm train when I went to this show. Their matinee set left me flat, but something clicked on that second set.

My old band supported Shiner once with the Dishes at the Bottle. Were you there? And were you at the Dianogah and Those Bastard Souls at the Vic? I want to say Sebadoh was there too. And, speaking of The Grifters -- The Pump Action Retards performing at the Empty Bottle prom was dope.

And if we're speaking of PRF events, that Auktoberfest morn with Spelling Bee and The Viper and His Famous Orchestra remains a fave.

A couple from the early-mid 90s stand out:
Boredoms/Thinking Fellers/Molecules at the Fillmore. July of 1995. Fillmore had just re-opened. People know Boredoms and TFUL, but the Molecules were an amazing prog/math trio - very high speed, intricate, intense shit. I saw the Boredoms many more times over the years, but this was the only time I got to see them in their "Soul Discharge," pre-psychedelic early phase. It was great.

Sun City Girls and Thinking Fellers did a U.S. tour together in 1992. I saw the Tucson and Phoenix (Tempe) shows. Tucson show had Mondo Guano (Bob Log's first band, incredible band) on the bill, Tempe had Eddy Detroit (incredible). Tempe show was on my birthday. Tempe show was the last show of the tour, which meant there were high-jinks including SCG doing a hilarious cover of the TFUL song "Change Your Mind" from their first LP, with Alan doing all his own made-up-on-the-spot lyrics. Man I remember this vividly.

Anyway - That was about as good as it could possibly get for young Jung.

Didn't they have FUGEXLAC shirts?

That 2012 PRFBBQ is still the greatest collection of bands under one roof. The detour to see Codeine only made that weekend feel more "once in a lifetime."

Shellac's 20th anniversary - the date with Nina Nastasia and Tar in particular

I want to say Skurt/Ossicles/Etc Etc Etc (back when they were hilarious) all played Canal Street once? 2014?

Les Butcherettes and Melvins - the recent band Terri assembled wasn't nearly as good

Sleaford Mods and Shetahr - with the two singers getting into a fistfight

Drose and The Conformists

Drose/Night Vapor/First Bite

Mike Watt and Meat Puppets
Kerouacian as fuck.

There was a show on Princeton's campus back about 2000, the Last Show (Spring had arrived, you see).

Shellac/Seam/US Maple/Don Caballero/Paul Newman/Uzeda/Oxes/Arab on Radar and one or two I missed while walking about. Pretty stout.

I think it was about '92 that I saw Helmet/L7/Ed Hall/Pain Teens/Poster Children - snuck into that show with a 40 of OE800 by going over razor wire with a rug, hustling across an auto repair shop, and then climbing onto the roof of an outdoor stage before jumping down backstage to no fanfare whatsoever.

Arcade Fire/LCD Soundsystem - Starlight Theater, Kansas City, 2007
Arcade Fire/The National - same venue, 2011

Belle and Sebastian/Courtney Barnett - Uptown Theater, Kansas City, 2015

Dinosaur Jr./Meat Puppets - Moody Theater, Austin, 2014 - This was an aftershow for Fun Fun Fun Fest. I had never seen either band before, and both were really good.

Live/PJ Harvey/Veruca Salt - Riverport Ampitheater, St Louis, 1996 - High school me loved this.

This reminds me. PJ Harvey/Tricky at The Vic Theater. Tour for To Bring You My Love. That era of her band was amazing.

- That first show? I may very well have been. Todd and I have talked about this. I've seen Shiner a few times, but those shows seem to run together.

- Thinking about it, it almost feels like that Shiner show may actually have been with The Grifters. Seems like the Those Bastard Souls Empty Bottle show might have been Red Red Meat, but it feels like they were broken up then. Man, I'm getting rusty.

- I did indeed go to that Dianogah/Those Bastard Souls show. Sebadoh were headlining on the tour for Harmacy. That one sticks out in my mind because I came back from a restroom trip only to find the lady I was with talking to Wesley Willis. That visual sticks out.

Thought of some others:

Oblivians/Cheater Slicks on Halloween 2003 at The Hi Tone in Memphis - This was the first "one-time only" Oblivians reunion. I feel like they played every goddamn song they recorded. Show went on for hours.

HiM/The Causey Way at The Casbah in San Diego - I was going to this show strictly to see HiM (Doug Scharin's band, not the other one) and was surprised to see it sold out soon after I arrived. Turns out the crowd was there to see the opener, The Causey Way, a band I'd never heard of until that night. They killed it. Really raucous, had this David Koresh/cult thing going on. Lots of theatrics. After the played more than half the crowd left, so I got see HiM with plenty of personal space. They were fantastic. I bought a Causey Way record and it was one of the worst things I'd ever heard.
