I got a message from a co-worker that Rob passed away this morning. he was taken to the hospital with an infection on Friday morning and things went downhill from there. it's a shock.

not much to say to say that anyone else who had the pleasure of knowing him wouldn't already know . . . good hearted, brilliant, perceptive, unbelievably funny guy. I didn't know him half as well as a lot of you. Rob had a lot more to share with the world and I'll miss him.

Oh, man, that's awful.
My condolences to his partner and friends and family and those of you who knew him.
Sharp as a tack, very witty, and seemed to have a big heart. RIP.

Oh my god, that's terrible. I never interacted with him IRL but had some pleasant exchanges here over the years, and he was a great writer capable of pulling me into things I might not always pay attention to. And I dug his surfy guitar style.

Shocking and awful...

That's a tragedy. I only met him a handful of times but he was incredibly smart, funny, and definitely one of the good guys.

Holy shit. I hadn't seen him in years until March when we met up for Cajun food at Heaven on Seven. It was fantastic food, because of course it was. We talked tech and music and politics and baseball for a couple of hours, because of course we did.

Some of it was tech AND baseball, because he had an idea about a baseball app, presenting stats of pitcher vs. pitcher in real time during the game, and we talked about how we might be able to pull it off and monetize it. Rob always had some idea in the back of his head that he wanted to pull together. It was always an inspiration to talk to him.

The Defoliants were everything to be back in the late 80s, and Rob was the first person I'd met who made music I loved, that meant something to me.

It was Rob who illuminated me to the world of Devo beyond "Whip It". If there was a bigger Devo fan, I don't know who it could be. And Dick Dale, oh how he loved Dick Dale.

What a loss.

And such a defender of the little guy amidst our culture of big business fucking over the poor and the disadvantaged. You'd talk to him about his love for Bernie Sanders and you'd hear it just pour out of him.

I believe Rob's surname is Warmowski (with a "w" after the "o"). He is definitely among the best posters this board has seen. Always insightful, often humorous. And I like the Raybeats cover his old band did, and the story about the Jesus Lizard that made it into Book. Am very sorry to hear about this.

Indeed.

Sincerest condolences to everyone, especially those who knew him well IRL.

I had such love for Rob and held him in high esteem. Set-up a show with his band Sirs at Pancho's. I just loved talking to him and being around him. I am so very sorry to his closest friends and family.

I'm crushed. I texted Rob last week to go to the Sox game. Speechless. One of the nicest, funniest, smartest people I know. Still hoping against hope that this is just a mixup.

EDIT: Well - as his wife Maureen verified - it is not a mixup. I'm better for having known you, Rob.

Godfuckingdammit. Just when I thought today couldn’t possibly get worse.

Rob was everything everybody said above. He was also instantly the funniest person at any poker table the moment he sat down, no matter who else was at the table. A unique combination of acerbic gentleness. I miss him already.

Rob was one of the first people I played music with after moving back to Chicago. For the 2014 BBQ, he and I arranged the Touch & Go Karaoke, and through him I got to meet Kamp and Barnicle. Rob was a fantastically gifted musician and a wonderful person to chat with, someone I didn't get to chat with nearly enough.

Take care of each other, and my condolences to Maureen and everyone else that was close with him.

For those that didn't know Rob very well, he was in the Defoliants, an influential Chicago band from the 80s. Love this song.

I'm floored. I can't imagine Chicago without Rob in it. He was a great musician and a funny, smart, enthusiastic presence in whatever conversation he was in, unpretentiously adding value to every vector of his life, whether music, labor politics or his particular passion, the Chicago White Sox. Nobody saw through the bullshit quicker or made better use of the language. My heart breaks for Maureen. I'm so sorry.

I love you Rob.

Rob was not only one of my oldest friends but one of my favorite people. I'm pretty gutted. I first met him when I booked The Defoliants at NIU in ... 87 or 88. One of the things I think many people don't know about him is that he was fiercely knowledgeable and passionate about technology and this was one of the areas we really bonded over, as much as if not more than music. While working at one of the very first Chicago ISPs (Ripco) it was Rob who invited me over in 1993 to show me the first graphical web browser Mosaic, a shatteringly life-changing event in my life. Right around the same time I remember him sending one of his long rambling rants about how digital will change the music industry because bits are bits and the internet doesn't care if its music or movies or porn. I barely understood what he was talking about but holy shit was he right. He was always one step ahead of everyone on that stuff.

Fucking horrible. We really lost one of the good ones.
