Oh, Carl. I'm so sorry to hear about Hudson. I enjoyed hearing about his sojourns for cheese (and other treats) and am sorry I never got to meet him.

Thank you, and please give Finley an ear rub for me.

And thank you, everyone for the good wishes. Hudson had a great life, other than the final 3 hours. The vet thinks he had a brain tumor that only manifested any serious effects in his final evening, and then (I hope) destroyed his brain so quickly he didn't realize what was happening. Seemed that way.

We miss him terribly, but with apologies for taking this thread down such a grim alley, here are some pictures of the little guy in happier times.

catwoman wrote:This is Kitty Farrell. She was a feral community cat that I had TNR'd back in 2009, when she was just a wee kitten. Couldn't take her in at the time, couldn't find an adopter. She became bonded to me, as her feeder. Back in October, last year, she injured her leg, and it took 2 weeks to trap her and take her to the vet. (PRF Vansassa was a great source of info and help!) By then the only choice was to amputate her broken leg. So, she recovered in my home, and she's mine now. She's a bit quirky, being "semi-feral", but she plays, cuddles, sleeps with me, likes to be petted. She's afraid of going down stairs right now, so she lives in the upstairs 2 bedrooms and bathroom. The white fur on her backside is where her leg used to be. She gets around just fine, but really doesn't jump up onto anything. She will pull herself up into bed; it's the only off-the-floor place she will go.

Kitty Farrell has a roommate now. Her name is Juno.
They do not like each other. Juno is a front-declaw, that I got from a friend who now cannot have a cat in her new living situation. Juno lives on the first floor, Kitty Farrell lives on the second. My cats are defective, each in their own way. I am working on getting them to meet and greet...

Juno is very very sweet, very tiny and I finally cannot feel her ribs. She was let outside a lot, and I think underfed and probably terrorized by big stomping man feet. We think her declawing gave her Stockholm Syndrome. I'm working on normalizing her.

Over the past three weeks, we've spent a lot of time walking dogs and volunteering at shelters. It may have been a help to the dogs; it certainly has helped us. In the middle of last week, we started talking to a rescue organization that had a lot of black greyhounds. The black dogs tend to have the hardest time getting adopted for whatever reason, and this organization had several.

One had been deemed unfit to continue racing in West Virgina and found herself on the trailer out of the park. Only problem is no one had placed her. When the trailer had dropped all the dogs off at their rescue groups and went to park in Connecticut, this little dog was in the back all alone. The driver made some calls and got a New Jersey organization to take her. She was in foster care being very affectionate, licking people's faces and squealing with excitement.

That ended Sunday. Now she's in Brooklyn. Meet Verity.

Greyhounds are criminally underrated and readily available pretty much everywhere. They are the Traynors of dogs (15 years ago anyway).

Hi Verity! Meet Hambone, Mabel, and Junior! Greyhounds are not underrated at our house.
edit: I guess Traynors aren't either, we have a TS-15 and a TS-25B.

Behold, the ultimate in cuddlebeast technology:

Image

Lola- most likely a cairn terrier (Toto, from Wizard Of Oz) and wire-haired dachshund mix, 5yo, adopted in Brooklyn. 15lb.

Wally- spawn of a poorly spayed Boston terrier and most likely an extra virile schnauzer of some sort. Adopted in San Jose. 18lb, 1.5yo.

Both are hypoallergenic to boot.
