They're pretty well-reviewed. I doubt the iron is that great and it could probably use an immediate tube swap but hey.

The limitation will be the 8" speaker. 5-8 years back the rage was the Epiphone Valve Jr amps, which we're basically the same thing. Great for modders, cheap, easy. I got one. It was fun but never quite achieved glory. Not long after they started offering it as a head and that's where it really took off because then you weren't stuck with that lil 8". I even replaced mine with a good Weber and I still feel like an 8" never cuts it for me.
I build effects and amps and do custom builds to order. Boom.

Well, it depends. I would love to have a tiny amp which I can mic up and record with, the smaller and quieter the better, really. As long as it sounded good in the recording. But maybe Dr Balls is suggesting the 8" speaker never quite gets you there, regardless of volume?

Maybe you could pull all the heads out and make a quad-amped 4x10.

It's hard to believe the 425 cid V-8 engine in Neil Young's Cadillac only puts out 180 horse power.

8" speakers have a tendency to fart-out and usually lack low end something fierce. This is a problem with all Champs. This Monoprice Champ has an external speaker-out though (that defeats the internal speaker).

I bought the cheap-o Champ. I like the speaker in this one. It has some body to it and doesn't fart out at volume. I can run my 1x10 or 2x12 if I want, too.

I had a Vibro Champ that had a Mojotone-branded Weber 8" speaker in it with a massive ceramic magnet that was pretty awesome. Don't know if they still have that model as it came to me that way when I bought it around '98 or so.

I think this is their 8" solution speaker: https://www.tedweber.com/8f150

it wont fit in every cab, though.

Yep, I believe that's it. It definitely just barely fit. Basket might have been slightly different though. Trying to remember whether it had 4 large openings (like a Celestion) vs the hotdogs.

I need another 4 or so CH. of good quality Preamp and maybe a few mics. I have a Sytek and it is great but I'd like something with a little more flavor. I need a couple of M88's, Maybe a 421 or something like that. My RE20 is frizzled, and I'm not sure it is worth trying to get fixed.

Replacement speaker for the alnico Jensen in my 5e3 modded Gibson GA-6. Probably looking for something similar to a vintage Jensen C12n. The alnico speaker in there sounds good but is too wooly at gig volumes in bigger rooms.
I really like the speaker distortion it has, but if you’re not mic’d up it’s difficult to stay dialed with the sound you want. Changes to the amp volume make a bigger difference as the speaker starts to give in at a certain point. I prefer the sound of low watt speakers so I’m going to see if switching to a 25 watt ceramic tightens it up. I still expect speaker breakup, just in a different flavor.
Also open to trying a Greenback or something, but I use the amp in tandem with an AC30 and want the Gibson to provude a typical American tweed sound.
